Mastercard casinos and betting sites
Mastercard is accepted by 36 casinos and betting sites in our data, nearly the same list as Visa. Deposits are instant after your bank's 3D Secure approval and free at local bookmakers; only a handful of brands, among them 1Win, Betway, Easybet and Playabets, pay winnings back to the card.

Where you can use Mastercard
How to deposit with Mastercard
- Choose Mastercard (or card) on the deposit page and enter the amount
- Enter the card number, expiry date and CVV; debit cards are accepted more reliably than credit cards
- Approve the 3D Secure prompt in your banking app or with the SMS OTP
- The money shows in your account straight away
What Mastercard is and where it works
Mastercard is the other global card network, issued as debit, credit and virtual cards by all the big South African banks. For gambling it behaves exactly like Visa, and the acceptance lists are almost identical. In our data 36 brands take Mastercard deposits, including Hollywoodbets, Betway, Sunbet, Sportingbet, TicTacBets and Mzansibet, plus offshore casinos such as Springbok Casino, Punt Casino, BitStarz and 1Win.
The few differences from Visa are at the margins. A handful of offshore RTG casinos list Visa but not Mastercard, so if your only card is a Mastercard, check the cashier before you sign up.
How to deposit with Mastercard
- Choose Mastercard or card on the deposit page.
- Enter the amount, the card number, expiry date and the three-digit CVV on the back.
- Approve the payment with Mastercard Identity Check (3D Secure): an in-app notification or an OTP from your bank.
- Your balance updates immediately.
Saving the card makes later deposits a two-tap affair. That convenience is worth pairing with a deposit limit in your account settings.
Declined? Make sure online payments are enabled, that international payments are on if the casino is offshore, and that the deposit is within your daily card limit. Credit cards are declined more often for gambling; use a debit or virtual debit card instead.
How to withdraw
Mastercard withdrawals are available at 1Win, Betway, Easybet, Playabets and Wanejo Bets in our data. The payout returns to the card you used, typically one to five business days after approval, because card refunds travel back through the card network rather than as a direct transfer.
At other sites, plan to withdraw by EFT:
- Finish FICA verification. The operator may also want a picture of your card with most digits hidden.
- Add a bank account in your own name.
- Request the payout and allow 24 to 72 hours at most local bookmakers.
Fees, limits and speed
- Fees: free at local bookmakers. At offshore casinos your bank may charge a cross-border fee and an exchange-rate margin.
- Minimum deposit: R10 at Virgin Bet, Lucky Fish, SuperSportBet and Lulabet, R50 at Sportingbet and Marshalls World of Sport, R150 at Yebo Casino.
- Maximum: your daily card limit and the operator’s limit.
- Speed: instant deposits; card withdrawals in one to five business days.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Accepted at most licensed bookmakers and many offshore casinos.
- Instant, with your bank’s own approval step.
- Works with debit, credit and virtual cards.
- Card details can be saved for quick repeat deposits.
Cons
- Card withdrawals are rare and slower than EFT or crypto.
- Slightly shorter acceptance list than Visa.
- International blocks and fees at offshore sites.
- Using a credit card means gambling on credit.
Mastercard tips for South African players
- Create a virtual card in your banking app just for gambling. You can set its limit, freeze it, or delete it, without affecting the card you use for groceries.
- Keep one deposit method and one withdrawal method per site. It speeds up FICA and avoids “same-method” payout rules.
- Check for card exclusions on bonuses. A few offers exclude e-wallets or crypto, and it is worth confirming cards qualify before you deposit.
What shows on your bank statement
Local bookmakers usually appear under their own name or their payment processor’s name. Offshore casinos often bill through a third-party company with an unrelated name, sometimes in dollars or euros, and occasionally that makes your bank flag the payment as suspicious. Make a note of the descriptor after your first deposit so you recognise it later. If you see a charge you don’t recognise, contact your bank straight away: a card dispute is only possible for genuinely unauthorised payments, not for gambling losses.
Mastercard or the alternatives?
If your bookmaker takes Ozow or Capitec Pay, those avoid card declines and are just as quick. Cash players can use 1Voucher or OTT Voucher instead. Everything on this page applies equally to Visa, so use whichever card you have.
Gamble only with money you can afford to lose, and never on credit. The National Responsible Gambling Programme is free and confidential on 0800 006 008. Before you deposit to claim a welcome offer, see what the wagering really costs with our bonus value calculator, and compare brands in our best betting sites list.
Frequently asked questions
Which betting sites accept Mastercard in South Africa?
In our data 36 brands, including Hollywoodbets, Betway, Sunbet, LottoStar, TicTacBets, Easybet, Playabets, Sportingbet and offshore casinos such as Springbok Casino and Jackpot City.
Can I deposit with a Mastercard debit card?
Yes. Debit Mastercards from South African banks work at all the local bookmakers that take cards, and they are declined less often than credit cards.
Can I withdraw to Mastercard?
At a few brands only: 1Win, Betway, Easybet, Playabets and Wanejo Bets in our data. Other sites pay card depositors by bank EFT.
Why does my Mastercard work at Betway but not at an offshore casino?
Offshore casinos process payments abroad. Your bank may block the payment as international or gambling-related, or you may need to switch on international online payments in your banking app.
