Is Playabets legit?
It’s one of the most searched questions about the brand, and the short answer is yes. Playabets MP (Pty) Ltd holds a bookmaker licence from the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (9-2-1-09689), and older data says it’s licensed in more than one province. That gives you FICA checks, segregated player funds, responsible gambling tools and a provincial board to take complaints to.
This review looks at the sportsbook; the slots and the casino welcome are covered in our Playabets casino review.
The R3,000 sports welcome bonus
Playabets matches your first deposit 100% up to R3,000. The terms:
- Minimum deposit: R50
- Wagering: 8x the bonus
- Minimum odds: 2
- Time limit: 7 days
What 8x at 2.00 means in Rands
Take a R1,000 deposit. You get a R1,000 bonus and must place R8,000 of qualifying bets at 2.00 or longer within a week. That’s a lot of turnover for a casual punter: about R1,150 a day.
Odds of 2.00 aren’t extreme. A slight underdog in a PSL match, a two-leg double of favourites or “both teams to score” in a lively EPL fixture often price around there. But at 8x, the margin on each bet works against you on every rand you turn over, so expect the bonus to shrink as you clear it. The realistic goal is to keep part of it, not to profit from it.
A smaller deposit makes the rollover manageable: R200 in means R1,600 to wager. Our wagering calculator shows the cost for any amount, and our welcome bonus guide compares Playabets with other bookmakers’ offers.
How to claim the Playabets bonus
- Register at playabets.co.za with your mobile number and SA ID number.
- Complete FICA by uploading your ID and a recent proof of address.
- Deposit at least R50 with Ozow, Capitec Pay, SID, a card or a voucher. The sports bonus is linked to your first deposit, so don’t make a tiny test deposit first.
- The 100% bonus is credited for sport. Bet it at 2.00 or more until you’ve wagered it 8 times.
- Finish within seven days, or the bonus and any winnings from it are removed.
No promo code is needed for the welcome bonus. Be careful with codes from other websites, which may sign you up to a different offer.
Promotions for regular punters

Playabets’ ongoing promotions are where it earns loyalty:
- 5% weekly cashback: every Tuesday you get 5% of last week’s net losses back on sports, Keno and Lucky Numbers, up to R2,000. It’s small, but it’s paid automatically and softens a bad week.
- MultiBet bonus: winning accumulators get up to 125% extra, with each leg at 1.35 or more.
- MultiBet Moneyback: on accumulators of seven legs or more, if one leg lets you down you can get stake back, up to a large multiple of your stake.
Moneyback is the most useful of the three for acca punters, because the most painful way to lose a long multi is by a single leg. It doesn’t change the fact that 7-leg accumulators lose most of the time, but it does take the sting out.
Cashback in Rands
Say you deposit R2,000 across a week and finish R1,200 down on sports and Lucky Numbers. On Tuesday, 5% of that net loss, R60, comes back to your account. To reach the R2,000 cap you’d need to lose R40,000 in a week, which tells you the cap is for high rollers, not most punters. Treat cashback as a small rebate, never as a reason to bet more.
Odds and margins
Playabets doesn’t publish its margins. In general terms, its prices on PSL and EPL match markets sit in the usual range for a licensed local bookmaker. Margins widen on accas and niche markets, as everywhere.
Because the welcome bonus requires 2.00 odds, check the price at one other bookmaker before you place a bonus bet. Shopping for even a few cents improves your chances of keeping some of the bonus.
Markets
Football
The full local menu: the Betway Premiership (PSL), Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, Bafana Bafana and AFCON, plus the EPL, Champions League and La Liga. PSL coupons carry handicaps, both teams to score, half-time/full-time and scorer markets, which is what the MultiBet promotions are built around. Compare in our PSL betting sites list.
Horse racing
Racing is a long-standing part of Playabets. It covers South African meetings and international racing, with win, place and exotic bet types. If racing is your main interest, compare it with the specialists in our horse racing betting sites list.
Rugby, cricket and more
The Springboks, URC and Currie Cup; the Proteas, SA20 and IPL; tennis, golf, boxing and MMA. The coverage is broad, though the deepest prop markets are kept for the biggest fixtures.
Lucky Numbers, Keno and virtuals
Playabets has a Lucky Numbers section and Keno, both of which count towards the weekly cashback, plus virtual sports. These are fixed-odds games of chance. The cashback makes losses slightly smaller, not the odds better. See the Lucky Numbers list for how its draws compare.
Live betting and cash-out
Live betting covers football, tennis, cricket and rugby, with odds updating during play. Cash-out isn’t confirmed in the sources we checked for Playabets; if a cash-out button appears on your open bet, it’s available for that market. Remember that MultiBet boosts and Moneyback apply to bets that run to the end.
App and mobile
Playabets has an Android app, downloaded from its own site, and a mobile site for iPhone and everyone else. Both carry the full sportsbook, racing cards and cashier. Only install the APK from playabets.co.za, never from a third-party download site, and keep it updated.
Deposits and withdrawals
Playabets takes the payment methods most South Africans use:
- Instant EFT: Ozow, Capitec Pay and SID Instant EFT
- Vouchers: 1Voucher and OTT Voucher
- Cards: Visa and Mastercard
- Bank transfer: EFT / bank transfer
The minimum deposit is R50, higher than some rivals that take R10. Withdrawals are processed within 24 hours once your account is verified, usually by bank transfer.
Support
Playabets is one of the few bookmakers to offer WhatsApp support (078 800 1018), alongside live chat, email (support@playabets.co.za) and phone (087 057 5292). For a quick question about a bet or a deposit, WhatsApp is often the easiest route.
If a dispute can’t be settled with support, for example over how a bet was graded, ask for the outcome in writing and then contact the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator with your account details, the bet slip and the support reply. That route is exactly what an offshore bookmaker can’t give you.
Responsible gambling tools
Licensed operators must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. You can set these in your Playabets account or ask support to apply them, and a self-exclusion applies for the period you choose.
Playabets against its rivals
How Playabets’ sports welcome compares with other licensed bookmakers in our data:
- Virgin Bet matches the same R3,000 at the same 8x and 2.00, but gives you 30 days instead of seven and takes a R10 deposit.
- 10bet goes up to R5,000 at 6x on bonus plus deposit, with 30 days to clear it.
- Sportingbet adds a R1,000 back-up bet to its match, with 5x wagering at 1.90.
Where Playabets pulls ahead is in what happens after the welcome: weekly cashback, MultiBet boosts and Moneyback every week, plus racing and Lucky Numbers. If you’ll be a regular, those ongoing promotions are worth more over a season than the difference between welcome bonuses.
Who Playabets suits
- Acca punters, who get the MultiBet bonus on winners and Moneyback when one leg loses.
- Racing and Lucky Numbers players, who can keep everything in one account and still collect cashback.
- Players who like a human contact point, thanks to WhatsApp and phone support.
It suits iPhone users who want a native app, and bettors who need a low R10 entry point, much less well.
Verdict
Playabets is a trustworthy local bookmaker with a fair-sized R3,000 sports match, sensible weekly cashback, and accumulator promotions that suit how South Africans bet. Racing and Lucky Numbers coverage, plus WhatsApp support, round it out.
The 8x wagering in seven days is demanding, the R50 minimum deposit is higher than average, and there’s no iPhone app. If a lighter rollover matters most, BetXchange (1x on its sports share) or Sportingbet (5x) are worth a look. For everyone else, Playabets is a dependable first or second account. Compare it in our best betting sites list.
Cashback is a cushion, not a reason to keep betting. Set a deposit limit in your account and call the NRGP on 0800 006 008 if it stops being fun.

What players say about Playabets
30 player comments carried over from our old site (they had no star ratings). New reviews are rated out of 5 stars.
- funani
Recommended Playabets to my colleague and he loves it too. The referral bonus was a nice touch. Good to see a casino that actually rewards loyal players.
- Ryan
Played the progressive jackpots at Playabets and almost hit big. So close lol. Will keep trying. At least the base games pay out decently while you chase the big one.
- mbali_d
Ok so the good: great game selection, easy deposits, nice welcome bonus. The bad: withdrawal could be faster and the mobile site sometimes glitches. Overall Playabets is still worth it though especially if you are in SA and want to play in ZAR.
- Craig
Solid casino. Been here about 4 months.
- thato_m
Customer support is 24/7 which is a plus
- samantha.j
Honestly Playabets surprised me. Was not expecting much based on some other reviews I read but my personal experience has been positive. The site works well, games are fun and I have had no problems with deposits or withdrawals. Will update this review if anything changes.

R800 win on my first session. Nice.
- mike_cpt
5 stars from me. Playabets has been solid since day one. Good games, fast deposits, and the bonuses actually have fair wagering requirements. Some of these other casinos have 60x wagering which is basically impossible to clear. At least here its reasonable.
- Zanele
Just ok. Nothing special but nothing terrible either.
- slotking_sa
The thing I like most about Playabets is that everything is in Rands. No USD nonsense. What you see is what you get. Deposited with Instant EFT and it was in my account before I could even navigate to the games page. Withdrew twice and both times it came through in a few days.
- Jason
Wish they had more table games but slots are fire
- amahle_z
Been playing at Playabets on and off for a while now. Its reliable which is the main thing I look for. Had one issue with a bonus not crediting but support sorted it out within the hour. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent online casino in South Africa.
- Ruben
Best SA casino imo
- kgomotso
Joined Playabets recently. The registration was straightforward and I was playing within a few minutes. The game selection is solid, especially the slots. Have not tried withdrawing yet but deposits were instant so hoping cashouts are just as smooth.
- Ethan
Works great on Android.
- nomvula
Lost a bit this month lol but thats gambling I guess. Playabets is still my go-to though. Interface is clean and games load fast on my phone. Cant complain about the platform itself.
- schalk_vw
Easy deposits via EFT. Takes seconds.
- fikile
I play at like 5 different SA casinos and Playabets is probably in my top 3. The welcome bonus got me started nicely and I like that they keep sending reload offers every week. Some sites just forget about you after you sign up but these guys keep the promos coming.
- Martin
Support was helpful when I had a verification issue
- Rudo
I mainly play here for the live casino and its really good. Blackjack tables run smooth with no lag. Only complaint is I wish they had more roulette variants but overall I am happy with Playabets. The ZAR deposits make it easy, no messing around with currency conversion.
- tshego_m
Not bad at all
- lebo_s
Good slots selection. 7/10 from me.
- Jaco
My mate told me about Playabets and I was skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. Put in R500 to start, played some slots and managed to build it up to about R1,800 before withdrawing. Whole process was smooth. Impressed so far, will definitely be back.
- nompumelelo
Quick sign up. Got the bonus instantly.
- Grant
Been gambling online for years and Playabets is one of the better ones available in SA right now. The game variety is decent, deposits with EFT are instant and I have not had any issues with payouts. Not perfect but definitely above average compared to some of the other sites I have used.
- mmapula
Withdrew R2,400 last week no problems.
- Kobus
Anyone else having issues with Playabets loading on iPhone? Works fine on my laptop but mobile is slow sometimes. Games are solid though when it works. Support told me to clear my cache and it helped a bit.
- zinhle_h
Decent site. Bonus was good.
- Petrus
So I have been using Playabets for about 3 months now and honestly its been a mixed bag. The slots are great and I hit a nice win on my second week but the withdrawal took longer than I expected. EFT came through eventually though. Will keep playing here for now but they need to speed up the cashouts.
