Best mobile casinos and casino apps

What qualifies as a mobile casino

Every casino on this site can be played on a phone. This list narrows it to brands that offer a dedicated Android app, as recorded in our data, ranked in our order of preference. Casinos that work only in a mobile browser, or whose app we haven’t confirmed yet, appear under “still being confirmed” below the ranking.

That focus matters in South Africa, where most players gamble on a phone and many on prepaid data. A good app logs you in with a PIN or fingerprint, keeps you signed in between sessions, and lets you deposit with Ozow or Capitec Pay without leaving the app.

App or mobile site?

An app isn’t automatically better. Here is how the two compare:

• Apps are quicker to open, can send you promotions and bet results, and often handle FICA document uploads with the phone camera. On Android, many South African brands supply the app as an APK from their own site rather than through Google Play, so you’ll need to allow installs from that source.
• Mobile sites need no installation and no storage, update themselves, and work on older phones. They’re the better choice if you play at several casinos.

Whichever you use, check that live dealer games and crash games such as Aviator load properly on your phone before you deposit a large amount.

How to choose a mobile casino

1. Deposits that suit your phone. Instant EFT through Ozow or Capitec Pay is the smoothest on a phone. Vouchers such as 1Voucher work too, by typing in the PIN.
2. Light games for mobile data. Slots and crash games are light; live casino is heavy. If you play on mobile data, the slot lobby matters more than the live section.
3. Withdrawals on the go. Some apps let you withdraw in a few taps once you’re verified; others send you to the website. See the fast payout casinos list.
4. Responsible gambling tools in the app. You should be able to set deposit limits and take a break from inside the app, not only on the desktop site.

Setting up a mobile casino in five minutes

You can do the whole set-up on your phone:

1. Register with your South African ID number, mobile number and email. Most brands send a one-time PIN by SMS.
2. Verify by taking photos of your ID and a proof of address with the phone camera. Good light and a flat surface save a rejected upload.
3. Set your limits in the responsible gambling section before your first deposit: a daily or weekly deposit cap takes a minute.
4. Deposit with Ozow or Capitec Pay; the banking app opens and returns you to the casino when you approve.
5. Turn on the security options: PIN or fingerprint log-in, and a separate password from your email.

If the app asks for permissions it doesn’t need, such as your contacts, decline them. A casino app needs the camera for FICA uploads and notifications if you want them, nothing else.

Terms to watch on mobile

Mobile bonuses carry the same rules as desktop ones, but a few are easy to miss on a small screen:

• App-only offers sometimes need the app installed before you deposit, not after.
• Maximum bet rules still apply while wagering. One quick tap on a higher stake can void a bonus.
• Terms behind a link. On a phone the full terms are often one tap away from the claim button. Open them before you opt in; the wagering, expiry and eligible games are there.
• Push notifications with “deposit now” offers are designed to keep you playing. Turn them off if they tempt you to play more than you planned.

Before you claim, check the wagering with our wagering calculator. For the full ranking regardless of app, see the best online casinos, and for sports on your phone, the best betting apps.
