How to deposit with Capitec Pay

  1. Choose Capitec Pay in the cashier and enter the amount
  2. Enter your cellphone number, ID number or Capitec account number
  3. Approve the notification in the Capitec app within 5 minutes
  4. If nothing arrives, open the app, tap Transact, then Capitec Pay, and approve it there

What Capitec Pay is

Capitec Pay is Capitec Bank’s own way of paying online merchants. Instead of typing in card details or logging in to internet banking on a third-party page, you enter your cellphone number, ID number or account number, and Capitec sends a push notification to your phone. You approve it with your Remote PIN or fingerprint, and the payment is done.

Capitec is South Africa’s largest bank by number of clients, so for millions of players this is the simplest way to fund a betting account. It is newer than Ozow and fewer operators have added it, but the list is growing. In our data 11 brands accept it: Betway, Goldrush, PantherBet, Playabets, YesPlay, World Sports Betting, ZARbet, Virgin Bet, Lucky Fish, SuperSportBet and Swifty Sports. All of them are licensed by a provincial gambling board.

How to deposit with Capitec Pay

  1. Log in to the betting site and open the deposit page.
  2. Choose Capitec Pay and enter the amount.
  3. Type your cellphone number, ID number or Capitec account number.
  4. Your phone shows a Capitec notification. Open it and approve with your Remote PIN or biometrics.
  5. Go back to the site. The money is in your balance straight away.

You have roughly five minutes to approve before the request expires. If the notification never appears, open the Capitec app, tap Transact → Capitec Pay and you will find the payment waiting there. Some merchants also require Capitec Pay to be allowed under the app’s merchant settings, so check there if a payment is declined.

Bonuses: Capitec Pay deposits count as normal bank deposits for welcome offers at the bookmakers above. Enter any bonus code before you approve the payment.

How to withdraw

Capitec Pay is mainly a deposit method. PantherBet and Playabets list Capitec Pay withdrawals in our data, which usually means the money is back in your account within a couple of hours. At the other sites you withdraw by bank transfer to your Capitec account. The result is the same account; it just takes longer, typically one to three business days.

Before any withdrawal:

  1. Complete FICA (ID and proof of address).
  2. Make sure the Capitec account is in your own name; operators reject third-party accounts.
  3. Request the withdrawal and wait for the operator’s approval.

Fees, limits and speed

  • Fees: free for the player at the bookmakers in our data.
  • Minimum deposit: set by each site. Lucky Fish lists R1, Virgin Bet and SuperSportBet R10, Playabets R20.
  • Maximum deposit: bound by your Capitec transaction limits, which you manage in the app, and by the operator’s cap.
  • Speed: deposits are instant once approved. Capitec Pay withdrawals, where offered, take minutes to about two hours; EFT payouts take one to three business days.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Nothing to type except your number; you approve in the app you already use.
  • No card details or banking passwords shared with the site.
  • Instant and normally free.
  • Only offered by provincially licensed operators in our data.

Cons

  • Capitec clients only.
  • Fewer sites than Ozow or vouchers, and no offshore casinos in our data.
  • Withdrawals through Capitec Pay are still rare.
  • A missed notification can make the payment time out.

Using Capitec Pay to stay in control

The Capitec app lets you see every Capitec Pay payment in one place and manage which merchants can request payments from you. Removing a betting site there is a quick way to stop deposits during a break.

Capitec Pay compared with Ozow

Both are instant and free. The difference is the approval flow. Ozow works with every major bank and asks you to pick your bank and log in or approve; Capitec Pay is a single tap inside the Capitec app. If your bookmaker offers both and you bank with Capitec, Capitec Pay is quicker. If it only offers Ozow, choose Capitec inside Ozow’s bank list and it works just as well. For cash deposits without a bank at all, see 1Voucher or Blu Voucher.

Use the app’s own limits as a budget tool: a low transaction limit on your gambling payments is an easy way to keep deposits in check. If betting starts to feel like something you need rather than something you enjoy, call the NRGP on 0800 006 008.
