ZARbet betting review
ZARbet is the Western Cape-licensed successor to ZAR Casino, and it has a full sportsbook, but no dedicated sports welcome bonus. Its promotions are casino offers, so punters get the core PSL, rugby and cricket markets, a R20 minimum deposit and an unusually modern cashier with Apple Pay, Capitec Pay and Bitcoin.

From ZAR Casino to ZARbet
ZAR Casino was a long-running name on the South African casino scene. Its domain now redirects to ZARbet, a brand run by Apollo Gaming (Pty) Ltd under a Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board licence (10010581-031), first issued on 28 March 2024. The move brought a provincial licence and a sportsbook alongside the casino.
If you had a ZAR Casino account, check with support how it carries over before you deposit. The licence and terms you sign up to now are ZARbet’s.
The casino side, where most of ZARbet’s promotions live, is covered in our ZARbet casino review. This page is for punters.
No sports welcome bonus
ZARbet’s headline welcome is a 200% match on your first deposit up to R2,000, from R20. It’s a casino bonus. Here’s everything ZARbet currently offers:
| Brand | Bonus | Wagering | Min deposit | Code | Claim |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200% up to R2,000 Welcome bonus | 30x | R20 | — | Claim bonus | |
| 100% up to R2,000 Reload bonus | — | R100 | — | Claim bonus | |
| Up to R200 Free spins | — | R100 | — | Claim bonus | |
| Deposit Wednesday-Monday, get spins on Tuesday Free spins | — | — | — | Claim bonus | |
| Up to 10% cashback Cashback | — | — | — | Claim bonus | |
| Up to R25,000 Tournament | — | — | — | Claim bonus | |
| 125% up to R3,750 + 25 free spins Welcome bonus | 30x | R20 | — | Claim bonus |
All of these, from the weekly R25,000 draw to Sunday cashback and Tuesday spins, are casino promotions. There’s no sports deposit match, no free bet on sign-up and no accumulator boost in the published offers.
That doesn’t make ZARbet a bad bookmaker, but it does mean the sportsbook competes on markets and convenience, not bonuses. If a sports welcome is important to you, compare:
- Sportingbet: 100% match plus a back-up bet of up to R1,000, at 5x
- 10bet: 100% up to R5,000, at 6x on deposit plus bonus
- Gbets: R50 free bet with no deposit
Or browse every offer in our free bets guide.
Should a punter take the casino bonus?
Only if you’ll actually play the casino. A casino match bonus has to be wagered on slots, and sports bets usually don’t count towards it. Taking it and then betting only on football can lock your deposit to wagering you’ll never clear. Read the bonus terms, and if in doubt, deposit without opting in.
Odds and margins
ZARbet doesn’t publish margins, and we haven’t seen a published price comparison. In general terms, a young local sportsbook prices headline PSL, EPL and Springbok matches in the same range as the established books. Margins are higher on accas and props, as everywhere. With no bonus to offset the margin, price is what matters most here, so compare it with one other bookmaker on bigger bets. Our odds converter shows the margin in any price.
Markets
ZARbet covers the core set:
- Football: the Betway Premiership (PSL), Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, Bafana Bafana and AFCON, plus the EPL, Champions League and La Liga
- Rugby: the Springboks, URC and Currie Cup
- Cricket: the Proteas, SA20 and IPL
- Others: tennis, golf, boxing and MMA
It’s a sensible list for everyday local betting. See how it compares in our PSL betting sites list.
Not confirmed
Horse racing, Lucky Numbers, Betgames and esports aren’t confirmed for ZARbet in any source we checked. Racing punters should look at our horse racing betting sites list, and Lucky Numbers players at the Lucky Numbers list.
Betting without a bonus: how to get value
With no welcome offer to lean on, a ZARbet punter’s value comes from three habits:
- Shop the price. On any bet above a casual amount, check one other bookmaker. A move from 1.85 to 1.95 on a R200 bet is R20 more profit if it wins, with no wagering attached.
- Prefer singles and doubles. Every extra leg multiplies the margin into your slip. Without an acca boost or insurance, long multis are especially poor value here.
- Bet the markets you know. If you follow the PSL closely, stick to it rather than chasing midweek leagues you haven’t watched.
These habits matter at every bookmaker, but at a bonus-free sportsbook they’re the whole game.
How to open an account
- Register at zarbet.co.za with your SA ID and mobile number.
- Upload your ID and proof of address for FICA.
- If you only want to bet on sport, don’t opt in to the casino welcome when you deposit.
- Deposit from R20 with Ozow, Capitec Pay, a card, Apple Pay, OTT or Bitcoin.
Live betting and cash-out
ZARbet’s sportsbook includes in-play markets on the main sports. Cash-out isn’t described in the sources we checked, so look for a cash-out option on your open bets before you rely on it. With a young sportsbook, features like this tend to arrive over time; we’ll update this review when they’re confirmed.
Mobile
There’s no ZARbet app listed in our data. The site works in mobile browsers, with the sportsbook, bet slip and cashier on one account. Add it to your home screen for one-tap access, and avoid third-party APK downloads that claim to be ZARbet. A browser site also updates itself, so you never miss a fix or a new feature.
Deposits and withdrawals
ZARbet’s cashier is more modern than many local books’:
- Instant bank: Ozow and Capitec Pay
- Bank transfer: EFT / bank transfer
- Cards and wallet: Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay
- Voucher: OTT Voucher
- Crypto: Bitcoin (BTC)
Apple Pay is still rare among South African bookmakers, and it makes deposits on an iPhone very quick. Bitcoin deposits are unusual for a provincially licensed brand. Your account still runs in Rands under a local licence, which is very different from betting at an offshore crypto sportsbook such as Cloudbet.
The minimum deposit is R20. ZARbet doesn’t publish a withdrawal time in the sources we checked. Complete FICA early, withdraw to a bank account in your name, and allow a working day or two for EFT.
Bitcoin at a licensed book: what to know
Because ZARbet accounts run in Rands, a Bitcoin deposit is normally converted to Rands when it arrives, so check the rate and any fee the cashier shows before you send coins. Ask support, or read the cashier, whether withdrawals can go back as Bitcoin or only to a bank account, and remember that exchange fees apply when you buy the coins in the first place.
Licence and safety
A WCGRB licence means ZARbet must verify your identity and age, keep player funds separate, provide responsible gambling tools and answer to the board on complaints. That’s a real step up from the offshore licence many older casino brands relied on.
The licence also means ZARbet must give you deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and it must stop you from opening a new account while you’re self-excluded. Offshore sites rarely enforce that, which is one of the quieter but most important differences for anyone who has struggled with gambling before.
The brand is young in its current form, so its record on sports disputes and large payouts is still short. Keep screenshots of bet slips and terms, and start with modest deposits.
Support
Support channels weren’t listed in the sources we checked. Look for live chat or a contact form on the site. Unresolved complaints can go to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board.
Who ZARbet suits
- Casino players who also bet, who’ll get value from the casino promotions and can place the odd sports bet in the same wallet.
- iPhone users who want Apple Pay deposits.
- Former ZAR Casino customers who want to stay with the brand under a local licence.
It suits bonus-led punters, racing fans and Lucky Numbers players less well.
ZARbet and the R25,000 weekly draw
The weekly R25,000 draw and the Sunday Scratch & Win are casino promotions, but they’re often the first thing you see on the site. Check the entry rules: draws usually need casino play, not sports bets, so a punter who only bets on the PSL won’t qualify.
What would make ZARbet a better bookmaker
A sports welcome offer, even a modest free bet, would make an obvious difference. So would published cash-out rules, payout times and support channels, and racing or Lucky Numbers to round out the menu. The licence and the cashier are already in place; the sportsbook now needs the features punters compare. We’ll update this review when they arrive.
Verdict
ZARbet is a properly licensed local bookmaker with a clean cashier (Ozow, Capitec Pay, Apple Pay and even Bitcoin), a low R20 minimum and the core football, rugby and cricket markets. For a casino player who also likes a weekend bet, it’s a convenient single wallet.
For punters, though, it’s a thin offer: no sports welcome bonus, no confirmed racing or Lucky Numbers, and no published cash-out or payout times. Use it as a secondary account and get your sports bonus elsewhere: our best betting sites list and our featured pick 1Win are good places to start.
