Bitcoin casinos and betting sites
Twenty-seven casinos and betting sites in our data accept Bitcoin from South Africans, almost all of them offshore crypto casinos such as 1Win, BitStarz, BC.Game and Cloudbet. BTC deposits credit after network confirmations (10 to 60 minutes) and payouts are often faster than bank EFT, but only one provincially licensed SA operator in our data (ZARbet) takes it.

Where you can use Bitcoin (BTC)
How to deposit with Bitcoin (BTC)
- Buy Bitcoin on a South African exchange (Luno, VALR) or use a wallet you already hold
- Choose Bitcoin on the deposit page and copy the deposit address (or scan the QR code)
- Send the BTC from your wallet on the Bitcoin network only
- The deposit credits after the number of network confirmations the casino asks for
What a Bitcoin casino is
A Bitcoin casino takes deposits and pays withdrawals in BTC rather than Rands. You send coins from a wallet to an address the casino gives you; when you withdraw, it sends coins back to an address you supply. Some sites keep your balance in BTC, others convert to dollars or Rands on arrival.
In our data 27 brands accept Bitcoin from South African players. They fall into two groups:
- Crypto-first casinos such as BitStarz, BC.Game, Cloudbet, Rollbit, Roobet, Shuffle, Gamdom and Duelbits. Most of their games, including the in-house provably fair titles, are built around crypto.
- Rand casinos that also take crypto, such as 1Win, 1xBet, Springbok Casino, Thunderbolt Casino, Yebo Casino and Imperial Wins.
Only one provincially licensed brand in our data lists Bitcoin: ZARbet, licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. Every other Bitcoin casino here operates under an offshore licence (Curaçao or Anjouan in our data). That matters: at those sites you cannot take a dispute to a South African gambling board.
How to deposit with Bitcoin
- Get BTC. Buy it on a South African exchange (Luno or VALR are the best known) after its FICA check, or use a wallet you already hold.
- Copy the casino’s address. In the cashier choose Bitcoin, then copy the address or scan the QR code. Check that you are on the Bitcoin network, not a wrapped or “BEP-20” version.
- Send. Paste the address into your exchange or wallet, enter the amount, and confirm. Double-check the first and last characters of the address before sending: a crypto payment cannot be reversed.
- Wait for confirmations. The casino credits the deposit after one to three network confirmations, usually 10 to 60 minutes.
Some exchanges restrict or flag transfers to gambling sites. Moving coins to your own wallet first avoids that, but adds a second network fee.
How to withdraw Bitcoin
- Complete whatever verification the casino asks for. Many will let small withdrawals through without ID, but most require KYC before large ones.
- Choose Bitcoin as the withdrawal method and paste your own wallet or exchange deposit address.
- Confirm. Once approved, the coins arrive after network confirmations.
- To get Rands, sell the BTC on your exchange and withdraw to your bank account.
Crypto-first casinos in our data quote payouts from under a minute (Shuffle) to around 10 to 12 minutes (Cloudbet, Roobet, BC.Game) once approved. Rand casinos that take crypto can be slower because their approval process is manual.
Fees, limits and speed
- Fees: the Bitcoin network fee on every transfer, plus the exchange’s buy and sell spread. Many casinos don’t charge their own fee, but a few deduct one on withdrawals.
- Minimum deposit: often the equivalent of a few dollars; Yebo Casino lists R50. Below a certain size, network fees make Bitcoin poor value.
- Exchange-rate risk: BTC’s price moves. A R1,000 win can be worth more or less by the time you sell it.
- Speed: deposits in 10 to 60 minutes; withdrawals minutes to a few hours after approval.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Accepted by most offshore and crypto casinos, where cards are often declined.
- Fast withdrawals once approved, independent of bank hours.
- Access to provably fair games you can verify yourself.
- No bank card or banking details shared with the casino.
Cons
- Almost every Bitcoin casino is offshore, with no South African dispute route.
- Network fees and exchange spreads eat into small deposits.
- Price swings between deposit, play and cash-out.
- Mistakes (wrong address or network) cannot be reversed.
A worked example in Rands
Say you buy R1,000 of Bitcoin on a local exchange. After the exchange spread and a network fee to send it, roughly R960 to R980 might reach the casino, depending on fees that day. If you then win and withdraw the equivalent of R1,500, you pay another network fee, and when you sell, the Rand amount depends on Bitcoin’s price at that moment, which may be higher or lower than when you deposited. The fees are small on large amounts but noticeable on a R100 deposit.
Bitcoin, USDT or Rands?
If price swings put you off, Tether (USDT) is pegged to the US dollar and usually cheaper to send. Ethereum (ETH) is faster than Bitcoin but has variable gas fees. If you want a local licence and a provincial board behind your account, stick to Rands with Ozow, EFT / bank transfer or a card at a licensed bookmaker.
Crypto makes it easy to lose track of spending in Rands, so note every deposit in Rands and set a limit in the casino account. Free help is available from the NRGP on 0800 006 008. Our crypto casinos list compares the sites, and the provably fair verifier lets you check game results yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to use a Bitcoin casino in South Africa?
Crypto itself is legal and regulated as a financial product in South Africa, but online casinos are only licensed through the provincial boards, and almost none of the Bitcoin casinos in our data holds a provincial licence (ZARbet is the exception). They operate under offshore licences, so you have no local regulator to complain to if something goes wrong.
How do I buy Bitcoin to deposit at a casino?
Open an account at a South African exchange such as Luno or VALR, complete its FICA check, deposit Rands by EFT and buy BTC. Then send it from the exchange to the casino's deposit address, or move it to your own wallet first.
How long do Bitcoin casino withdrawals take?
Once the casino approves the request, the transfer itself usually confirms within 10 to 60 minutes. Many crypto casinos approve within minutes; others take a few hours, especially on a first withdrawal or before KYC.
Do Bitcoin casinos still ask for ID?
Many do, at least before large withdrawals. Some crypto casinos let you play with only an email address, but they keep the right to ask for ID at any time.
What are the fees for Bitcoin deposits?
You pay the Bitcoin network fee when you send, and the exchange's spread when you buy and sell Rands. Network fees change with demand, so a R100 deposit can lose a noticeable share to fees.
