Google Pay casinos in South Africa

No casino or betting site in our data accepts Google Pay from South African players yet, even though Google Wallet has worked with most major SA banks since 2022. If you play on Android, Zapper, SnapScan, Capitec Pay or Ozow give you the same quick phone-based deposit at far more sites.

How to deposit with Google Pay

  1. Add your bank card to Google Wallet on an Android phone
  2. Choose Google Pay in the cashier, where offered
  3. Confirm with your screen lock

The short answer

Right now, you can’t deposit at any casino or betting site in our data with Google Pay. We track around 70 brands that accept South African players, and none of them lists it in the cashier. That includes the big local bookmakers like Betway and Hollywoodbets, and our featured casino, 1Win.

That may change, and we’ll update this page when it does. In the meantime, this page explains how Google Pay works in South Africa and which methods do the same job.

What Google Pay is in South Africa

Google Pay, part of Google Wallet, lets you store bank cards on an Android phone and pay by tapping at a card machine or by tapping a button online. Like Apple Pay, it sends the merchant a token instead of your real card number.

Google Wallet launched in South Africa in 2022 with Absa, Discovery Bank, FNB (through FirstRand), Investec, Nedbank and Standard Bank. Capitec, which wasn’t part of the launch, now lets clients add their cards to Google Wallet from the Capitec app. In everyday shopping, it’s well supported.

Why casinos don’t offer it yet

Payment methods reach betting cashiers when a payment provider used by the bookmaker supports them and the bookmaker chooses to switch them on. South African bookmakers built their cashiers around instant EFT (Ozow, SID), Capitec Pay, cards and cash vouchers, and those cover nearly every player. Apple Pay has started to appear at a few brands, such as ZARbet, Lucky Fish, Swifty Sports and Jackpot City (see our Apple Pay page), but no brand in our data has made the same move for Google Pay.

Some offshore casinos advertise Google Pay in other countries. Don’t assume it works for South African accounts; check the cashier after you’ve logged in, before you rely on it.

The best alternatives on Android

You can get the same speed and phone-based approval with these methods:

  • Capitec Pay: approve the deposit in the Capitec app. No card number, no banking login on a third-party page.
  • Ozow: South Africa’s most widely accepted instant EFT, at more than 30 brands in our data. Approve in your banking app.
  • Zapper: scan a QR code and approve from a linked card. Accepted by 1Win, Hollywoodbets, 10bet and others.
  • SnapScan: the same idea, accepted by 1Win, Supabets, Easybet and LottoStar.
  • Visa or Mastercard: if you just want to pay by card, nearly every site takes them.

For cash players, 1Voucher and Blu Voucher are sold at most supermarkets and work at many bookmakers.

How Google Pay would work at a casino

If a South African site adds it, expect the usual flow:

  1. Add your bank card to Google Wallet on your Android phone.
  2. Open the casino in Chrome or its Android app.
  3. Choose Google Pay in the cashier and enter the amount.
  4. Confirm with your fingerprint, face unlock or screen lock.
  5. The deposit reflects instantly; withdrawals, if offered, would go back to the card.

Pros and cons of Google Pay (when available)

Pros

  • Fast, tokenised card payments on Android.
  • Supported by most major South African banks.
  • No card details shared with the merchant.

Cons

  • No casino or betting site in our data accepts it.
  • Card payouts, where offered, take longer than instant EFT payouts.
  • Android only.

What to do now

If you came here wanting to pay with your phone, pick Capitec Pay or Ozow at a local bookmaker, or Zapper or SnapScan at 1Win. Browse the full list of methods, with the brands that take each one, on our payments page.

Whichever method you use, set a deposit limit in your betting account before you start. Gambling is entertainment, not income; if it stops feeling that way, the NRGP’s free helpline is 0800 006 008.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Google Pay at South African casinos?

Not at any brand in our data. Google Pay works in South African shops and some online stores, but local casinos and bookmakers haven't added it to their cashiers yet.

Which banks support Google Pay in South Africa?

Absa, Discovery Bank, FNB, Investec, Nedbank and Standard Bank have supported Google Wallet since its 2022 launch, and Capitec now lets you add cards from its app.

What is the best alternative to Google Pay for betting on Android?

Capitec Pay and Ozow are the most widely accepted phone-based options, and Zapper and SnapScan let you pay by card through an app. All are instant.

Will South African bookmakers add Google Pay?

Possibly. Apple Pay is already accepted at four brands in our data, so Google Pay may follow. We'll update this page when a brand adds it.
