Lulabet betting review

Lulabet in a nutshell

Lulabet launched in September 2022 and has grown quickly among South African punters. It’s licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board under licence 10190073-005, takes Rands, and keeps its promotions easy to understand. Many people find it by searching “Lulabets” or “Lulubets”. The name is Lulabet.

What you get:

• a “bet and get” welcome free bet instead of a deposit match
• multibet bonuses up to 225%
• full coverage of the PSL, rugby and cricket
• a casino with live dealer games
• apps on Android and iOS
• payouts to OTT vouchers and cellphone wallets

This review covers the betting side. The casino has its own Lulabet review.

Claim bonus

Lulabet doesn’t match your deposit. Instead, you place a qualifying bet and receive a free bet of the same size. From our data:

• Qualifying bet: R250 at odds of 2 or more
• Free bet: R250
• Rollover: 1x on winnings
• Time limit: 7 days

Why this beats a bigger match for most punters

Compare it with a 100% match up to R5,000 at 6x, which needs R30,000 of betting. Lulabet’s offer asks for one R250 bet. If your R250 free bet then wins at odds of 2.5, you get R375 in winnings (the stake usually isn’t returned on a free bet). Bet those winnings once more and they’re withdrawable.

If the free bet loses, you’ve lost nothing extra: the free bet was never your money. The total risk is your R250 qualifying bet, which you’d have placed anyway. That’s what an honest welcome bonus looks like. The minimum odds of 2.0 mean the qualifying bet can’t be on a heavy favourite, so pick an evenly matched game or a two-leg multi.

Our free bets page compares similar “bet and get” offers, and the bet calculator shows what a free bet returns at any price.

• Bet R50, get a R50 free bet or 25 free spins. A smaller version of the welcome offer for punters who don’t want to start with R250. You choose between a sports free bet and spins.
• Multi bets bonus up to 225%. Lulabet adds a percentage to the winnings of qualifying multibets, rising with the number of legs. The top 225% applies to very long multis, which rarely win. Treat the boost as a bonus on multis you’d place anyway.
• Refer a friend: R50 free bet. Invite someone who registers and bets, and you get a R50 free bet.

On the casino side, betting R250 earns 100 free spins on Gates of Olympus 1000, with a 30x rollover. Our data doesn’t list a bonus code for any of these offers.

Sports markets

Lulabet covers the core South African and international competitions in our data:

• Football: the Betway Premiership (PSL), Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, Bafana Bafana, AFCON, EPL, Champions League and La Liga
• Rugby: the Springboks, the URC and the Currie Cup
• Cricket: the Proteas, SA20 and the IPL
• Other sports: tennis, golf, boxing and MMA

Horse racing and Lucky Numbers aren’t in our data for Lulabet. If you bet on the horses, pair Lulabet with a racing bookmaker; our horse racing betting sites list shows the options. For football fans, the multi bonus makes Lulabet a natural home for weekend PSL and EPL multis. See how it compares in our PSL betting sites list.

Odds

We don’t have evidence that Lulabet’s margins are consistently better or worse than other licensed books. Newer bookmakers often price headline matches sharply to win customers. Check three or four of your regular bets against another site before you settle in. The odds converter helps if you think in fractions.

Remember that multibet boosts change the maths. A 20% boost on a five-leg multi lifts your return, but each leg still carries the bookmaker’s margin. Boosts make multis less bad value, not good value.

Live betting and cash-out

Lulabet offers in-play betting on football and other major sports, with odds updating during the match. Cash-out isn’t confirmed in our sources. If you rely on cash-out to manage multis, check your bet slip for the option or compare our live betting list.

The Lulabet app

Lulabet has apps on Android and iOS, with the sportsbook, casino and cashier in one place. That puts it ahead of several newer local brands that offer only a mobile site. The mobile site is there too if you’d rather not install anything. Our betting apps list compares the local apps.

Payments and withdrawals

Lulabet’s cashier is one of the most complete among South African bookmakers:

• Instant EFT: Ozow and other Instant EFT (EasyEFT, BetterEFT, EFTsecure, Callpay, Swiffy) options
• Cards: Visa and Mastercard
• Bank transfer: EFT / bank transfer
• Vouchers: 1Voucher and OTT Voucher
• Cellphone wallets: FNB eWallet and Standard Bank Instant Money

The minimum deposit is R50.

Withdrawals are where Lulabet is more flexible than most. Our payments research found Lulabet among the few bookmakers that pay out winnings to OTT vouchers, as well as to bank accounts and cellphone wallets. If you don’t want gambling transactions on your bank statement, or you don’t have a bank account, that matters. Lulabet doesn’t publish a standard payout time in our data. FICA comes first, so verify early.

The casino next door

Lulabet’s account includes a casino with slots and live dealer tables, sharing your wallet with the sportsbook. For bettors, two things are worth knowing:

• Bonuses are separate. The R250 sports free bet and the 100 casino spins are different offers with different rollovers. The casino spins carry a 30x rollover, far heavier than the sports offer’s 1x.
• One balance means less friction, and less of a pause. It’s easy to drift from a finished match to a few spins. If you only want to bet on sport, consider setting a casino limit, or no casino play at all, in your account settings.

The full casino offer is covered in our Lulabet casino review.

Licence and safety

Lulabet is licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, licence 10190073-005. A provincial licence means Lulabet must follow South African rules on FICA, responsible gambling and bet settlement, and you can complain to the board if something goes wrong. That route doesn’t exist with offshore sites.

Lulabet is still young, with about four years of trading. It doesn’t have the track record of a Hollywoodbets or Interbet, but nothing in our data points to payout problems.

Lulabet against similar bookmakers

Lulabet’s simple free bet is easiest to judge next to other offers:

• Bettabets offers a 150% match up to R10,000 but asks for an 8x rollover in two days. Lulabet’s offer is smaller and far easier to turn into withdrawable money.
• Interbet has a similar idea, a R200 free bet with a 1x rollover, plus a betting exchange and racing that Lulabet doesn’t have. Interbet’s offer is still being confirmed.
• Hollywoodbets gives a no-deposit sign-up bet and covers horse racing and Lucky Numbers, which Lulabet lacks in our data.

Who Lulabet suits

Lulabet is a strong fit if you:

• bet mostly on football multis, where the multi bonus applies
• want a welcome offer you can clear with a single R250 bet
• prefer OTT vouchers or eWallets for withdrawals
• want a proper app on Android or iPhone

It’s a weaker fit for racing fans and Lucky Numbers players.

Setting limits

Free bets and multi boosts are designed to keep you placing bets. Before you claim anything, set a weekly or monthly deposit limit in your Lulabet account. Licensed bookmakers must also offer time-outs and self-exclusion. Our responsible gambling page explains each option.

How to claim the R250 free bet

1. Register with your SA ID, phone number and email.
2. Complete FICA by uploading your ID and proof of address.
3. Deposit and place a R250 bet at odds of 2.0 or more.
4. Use the R250 free bet within 7 days, then bet the winnings once.

Verdict

Lulabet is one of the more punter-friendly newer bookmakers. The R250 “bet and get” offer is easy to understand and easy to clear, the multi bonus suits football fans, and the cashier covers everything from Ozow to OTT vouchers, with voucher and eWallet payouts.

What holds it back:

• no horse racing or Lucky Numbers in our data
• cash-out isn’t confirmed
• payout times aren’t published
• it’s only been trading since 2022

For PSL and EPL multis, Lulabet is a good first or second account. Compare it with others on our best betting sites list before you decide.
