Interbet at a glance
Interbet is one of the old names in South African betting. It has been taking bets for more than 25 years, long before most of the brands on today’s billboards existed. It holds a bookmaker licence from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), and the brand’s notes say it also holds a manufacturer licence from the same board.
That history shows in what Interbet is good at. This is a racing-first bookmaker. You get:
- fixed-odds and tote betting on South African and international horse racing
- a betting exchange, which is rare in South Africa
- a full sportsbook for the PSL, EPL, rugby and cricket
- a small casino section alongside the betting
If you came to sports betting through the horses, Interbet will feel familiar. If you mainly want flashy football promotions, there are louder brands. This review covers what Interbet offers new players, how its markets compare and what to expect when you withdraw.
The Interbet sign-up offer
Interbet’s welcome deal comes in two parts. Both are listed in our data as being confirmed, so treat the figures as a guide and check the promotions page before you sign up.
The main offer is a free bet of not published when you make a first deposit of not published. The rollover is not publishedx, which is as light as betting bonuses get in South Africa. In plain terms, you bet the free bet once and whatever it wins is yours to withdraw. Several players say they cleared it within a couple of races.
There’s also a small no-deposit sign-up bet of not published in our data. It’s not much money, but it lets you place a real bet before you deposit anything.

What the bonus is really worth
A R200 free bet with a 1x rollover costs you very little in extra betting. Compare that with a 100% match up to R5,000 at a 6x rollover, which means betting R30,000 before you can withdraw. The bigger headline number is worth less to most punters, because few people bet that volume in a month. Our wagering calculator shows the Rand cost of any rollover.
Two details to check in Interbet’s terms:
- whether the free bet’s stake is returned with the winnings, or only the profit (most free bets pay out the profit only)
- the minimum odds for the qualifying bet and the free bet
If you’re comparing low-rollover offers, look at our free bets page and the sign-up bonus list.
Horse racing: Interbet’s home ground
Racing is why most people open an Interbet account. Our data lists both South African meetings and international racing:
- Local tracks: Turffontein, Greyville, Scottsville, Kenilworth and Fairview, including the big days such as the Durban July
- International meetings: the UK, Ireland, France, Australia and Hong Kong
You can bet fixed odds with Interbet, or into the tote pools. Interbet’s integration with TAB means you can play tote bets from the same account. Exotic bets such as the Place Accumulator, Pick 6, Jackpot, Trifecta and Swinger are available through the pools.
Regular players single out Interbet’s form data as a reason to stay. One long-time punter says the racing information is better than at bigger rivals. If racing is your main bet, compare Interbet with Hollywoodbets, the country’s biggest racing bookmaker, with TAB (Tabonline) for pure tote betting, and with Marshalls World of Sport, another heritage racing bookmaker with betting shops. Our horse racing betting sites list ranks the options.
The betting exchange
Interbet runs a betting exchange next to its sportsbook. On an exchange you bet against other punters rather than the bookmaker. You can back a selection to win, or lay it, which means betting that it won’t win. The exchange takes a commission on winning bets instead of building a margin into the odds.
For experienced bettors, exchanges have two advantages:
- the prices on popular races can be better than fixed odds
- you can trade a position before the event ends, much like cash-out but at market prices
Laying is riskier than it looks. When you lay a horse at 8.0 for R100, you’re risking R700 to win R100. Learn how liability works before you place a lay bet, and keep stakes small until you do.
Sports markets
The sportsbook covers the main competitions South Africans bet on. Our data confirms:
- Football: the Betway Premiership (PSL), Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, Bafana Bafana, AFCON, the EPL, the Champions League and La Liga
- Rugby: the Springboks, the URC and the Currie Cup
- Cricket: the Proteas, SA20 and the IPL
- Other sports: tennis, golf, boxing and MMA
The football menu has the standard markets: match result, double chance, both teams to score, over/under goals and handicaps. Interbet doesn’t compete with the international giants on the number of player props per match. For a PSL weekend or a Springbok test, the depth is fine. Our PSL betting sites list shows which bookmakers go deepest on local football.
Interbet doesn’t list Lucky Numbers, esports or virtual sports in our data. If those matter to you, a second account elsewhere makes sense.
Odds
Interbet’s football and rugby odds are in line with other provincially licensed bookmakers. We don’t have evidence that its margins are consistently tighter or wider than its rivals’. Racing is different: the exchange and tote pools let the market set the price, which can beat a bookmaker’s fixed odds on popular runners.
The simplest way to check is to compare a few of your usual bets across two sites before kick-off. Our odds converter helps if you read odds as fractions.
Live betting and cash-out
Interbet offers in-play betting on football, tennis, cricket and other sports, with odds updating through the match. Our data doesn’t confirm a cash-out feature on the fixed-odds sportsbook, so don’t count on it. The exchange is the more flexible tool here: you can lay back a selection you backed earlier to lock in a profit or cut a loss, provided there’s someone on the other side.
Live chat can be slow during busy racing sessions, according to the player feedback in our data. If you bet in-play and need help with a settled bet, try to contact support outside peak race times.
The Interbetmobi app
Interbet’s app is called Interbetmobi and runs on Android and iOS. Interbet was among the first South African bookmakers to offer mobile betting, years before most rivals. The current app gives you the sportsbook, racing and your account in one place.
The design is the weakest part. Reviewers and players agree the look is dated next to newer brands. It works, and regulars say they’ve stopped noticing, but if you’re used to the polish of the big international apps it will feel plain.
Payments and withdrawals
Interbet keeps both ends of the cashier simple. You can deposit with:
- Instant EFT: Ozow
- Cards: Visa and Mastercard
- Vouchers: 1Voucher and OTT Voucher
- Bank transfer: EFT / bank transfer
The minimum deposit is R10, which suits small-stakes punters. The catch is on the way out: withdrawals go by bank transfer only. The minimum withdrawal is R100, and our data puts payout times at 24-48 hours once you’re verified.
Like every licensed bookmaker, Interbet must complete FICA before your first withdrawal. Upload your ID and proof of address straight after you register, so you’re not waiting on documents after a winning Saturday.
Loyalty points
Interbet runs a loyalty points programme for regular bettors. Points build up as you bet and can be redeemed for betting credit. One player reports redeeming R120 in credits in a month. Like every loyalty scheme, it’s a small return on money you were going to bet anyway. Don’t increase your betting to chase points.
Licence and safety
Interbet holds a WCGRB bookmaker licence, which is the strongest kind of protection a South African punter can have. If a bet is settled wrongly or a withdrawal is held without reason, you can complain to the board after going through Interbet’s own process. Offshore sites licensed in Curaçao don’t give you that route.
Interbet’s long track record also counts. A bookmaker that has paid South African punters for a quarter of a century has a reputation to protect.
How to join Interbet
- Register on interbet.co.za with your South African ID number, mobile number and email.
- Upload your ID and proof of address for FICA.
- Claim the sign-up bet if it’s still offered, then deposit R200 or more for the free bet.
- Read the minimum odds and the expiry of the free bet before you use it.
Verdict
Interbet is a trustworthy, long-running bookmaker built around horse racing. The tote integration and betting exchange give racing fans tools few South African sites offer. The R200 free bet with a 1x rollover is honest value, and the R10 minimum deposit welcomes small punters.
The weaknesses:
- the website and app look dated
- withdrawals are by bank transfer only
- live chat slows down during busy racing sessions
- no Lucky Numbers, esports or virtuals
- both welcome offers are still being confirmed
For racing, Interbet deserves a place in your shortlist alongside Hollywoodbets and World Sports Betting. For football promotions, the best betting sites list has more to choose from.

What players say about Interbet
4 player comments carried over from our old site (they had no star ratings). New reviews are rated out of 5 stars.

R25 free bet is small compared to Easybet but 1x rollover means you can actually withdraw it. Honest operator.
- GladysN
Loyalty Points programme is a nice touch for regulars. Redeemed R120 in credits last month from losing bets.
- HendrikV
Interface feels dated but it works. Their horse racing form data is better than Sunbet’s, and the TAB integration is unique.
- MandlaD
Interbet has been my horse racing go-to since 2015. TAB tote + exchange under one account is unbeatable. 1x wagering on the R200 free bet was cleared in two races.
