Online casinos and betting in Eswatini

Eswatini licenses land-based casinos, but no online gambling law or licensing body could be confirmed, so the status of online casinos and betting is unclear. Players can sign up with offshore sites such as 1Win, the 1xBet family, BC.Game, Cloudbet and Rollbit; South African bookmakers don't accept Eswatini residents.

If you live in Eswatini, you’ve probably noticed that most betting adverts you see are for South African brands you can’t actually join. This guide sets out the short version of the law, the international sites that do accept emaSwati, and the practical side of depositing with mobile money and getting paid out.

The short version

  • Land-based casinos are licensed in Eswatini.
  • No online gambling framework or online licensing body could be confirmed in our research.
  • Online casinos and online betting are therefore marked unclear: neither clearly permitted nor clearly banned.
  • South African brands don’t accept you. The sites that do are offshore brands licensed abroad.
  • Mobile money (MTN MoMo and e-Mali) is the everyday payment method, but offshore cashiers support it unevenly.

The rest of this page fills in the detail. Nothing here is legal advice. If you need certainty about your own position, ask a lawyer in Mbabane or Manzini.

What Eswatini’s law covers

Eswatini’s gambling rules were built around physical venues. Casinos are licensed, and our research confirmed that much. What it couldn’t confirm is any law written for online play, any regulator that issues online licences, or a set minimum age for online gambling.

That leaves a gap. International sites take bets from Eswatini residents, but no Eswatini authority has licensed them, and no Eswatini body is set up to hear a complaint about them. Unlike some neighbours, Eswatini doesn’t even have a clearly licensed online sports betting sector to fall back on: sports betting online is unclear too.

Compare that with Botswana, where a Gambling Authority licenses sports betting, or Mozambique, where online sports betting operators are licensed. Eswatini’s position is closest to Lesotho’s.

Can you use South African betting sites?

No, and this catches a lot of people out. Hollywoodbets, Betway South Africa, Supabets, Sunbet, Gbets, World Sports Betting and the other SA-licensed bookmakers don’t accept players from Eswatini. Their licences are issued by South African provincial boards and apply to bets placed from within South Africa. Our data lists none of them outside South Africa.

Sharing a border, a currency peg and a love of South African football doesn’t change the licence conditions.

Sites that accept players from Eswatini

The ranked list above shows the international brands our research confirms accept Eswatini, starting with 1Win. What each brings:

Brand Best for Licence
1Win All-round casino and sportsbook, crash games Curaçao
1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, Betwinner, Megapari, PariPesa Deep football markets, long payment menus Curaçao
BC.Game Crypto casino with its own games Anjouan
Cloudbet, Rollbit Crypto betting and fast crypto payouts Curaçao

1Win’s welcome package is a percentage match spread over several deposits. The cap and terms offered to Eswatini may differ from the South African offer shown elsewhere on this site, so the cashier is the place to confirm what you’d get. The 1xBet sister brands share a platform, so pick the one whose cashier supports your payment method.

Depositing with MTN MoMo and e-Mali

Eswatini has two mobile money wallets in our data: MTN MoMo and e-Mali. Locally they’re the easiest way to move small amounts, and a few international sites accept MoMo through payment partners. Coverage changes often, though. Before you register:

  1. Set your country to Eswatini on the site and open the cashier.
  2. Check whether MTN MoMo or e-Mali is offered.
  3. Check the withdrawal list too, not only deposits.

Our MTN MoMo page covers MoMo in South Africa. The Eswatini service is run separately, but the page’s tips on wallet limits still apply.

The other options are Visa cards, which most sites accept but banks sometimes decline for offshore gambling, and crypto, chiefly Tether (USDT). Crypto gives the quickest payouts at sites like BC.Game and Cloudbet, but you need an exchange account to convert it back to emalangeni.

Currency

The lilangeni is pegged one-to-one to the rand, and the rand is legal tender in Eswatini. Offshore sites almost never offer either, so your balance will sit in US dollars, euros or crypto. Every conversion costs a small margin, and those margins add up over a month of regular deposits.

Risks to understand before you play

Offshore isn’t a synonym for unsafe, but you give up some protection:

  • No local dispute route. If a site refuses a withdrawal, you can complain to its licensing body abroad, and that’s where it ends.
  • Verification holds. Withdrawals stop until your ID and address are checked. Do it on day one.
  • Strict bonus rules. Wagering requirements, maximum bets while a bonus is active and excluded games all apply. Read our wagering requirements guide before you accept any bonus.
  • Account closure. Duplicate accounts or bonus abuse can lead to closure and confiscated winnings.

For a fuller comparison, see offshore and locally licensed casinos.

Football in Eswatini

Football dominates. The Premier League of Eswatini is the local top flight, though online coverage of it can be thin at international books. The English Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and La Liga are where you’ll find the most markets and the sharpest prices. If you’re new to betting, our explainer on how betting odds work shows how to turn odds into a probability.

A sensible way to start

If you decide to play at an offshore site from Eswatini, a careful first week looks like this:

  1. Pick one site, not three. Spreading small deposits across several accounts makes it harder to track what you’ve spent.
  2. Register with details that match your ID, including your full name and date of birth.
  3. Check the cashier for MTN MoMo or e-Mali, and note which methods are offered for withdrawals.
  4. Verify your account before you deposit anything meaningful.
  5. Skip the bonus at first if the wagering looks high. You can play with your own money and withdraw freely.
  6. Test a small withdrawal. Once you know how long it takes and what it costs, you can decide whether the site is worth keeping.

Staying in control

There’s no confirmed national gambling helpline for Eswatini in our data. The NRGP number in the box below is South Africa’s line. The tools that matter most are at your betting site: deposit limits, session reminders, time-outs and self-exclusion. Set limits before you start, not after a bad day. If gambling is affecting your money, sleep or relationships, take a break and talk to someone you trust or a health worker. Our responsible gambling tools guide explains each option.

Frequently asked questions

Is online gambling legal in Eswatini?

Eswatini licenses land-based casinos, but we couldn't confirm any online gambling framework or licensing body, so online casinos and betting sit in a legal grey area. Offshore sites accept players from Eswatini. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do South African betting sites accept players from Eswatini?

No. Hollywoodbets, Betway SA, Supabets, Sunbet and the other SA brands hold South African provincial licences that cover players in South Africa only. They don't open accounts for Eswatini residents.

Can I bet with MTN MoMo in Eswatini?

MTN MoMo and e-Mali are Eswatini's mobile money wallets. A few international sites accept MoMo through payment partners, but check the cashier first: support differs by site and by country, and withdrawals may need another method.

What currency do offshore casinos use for Eswatini players?

Usually US dollars, euros or crypto. The lilangeni and the rand are both legal tender in Eswatini, but offshore sites rarely offer either, so expect a conversion on deposits and withdrawals.

Is there a gambling helpline in Eswatini?

We couldn't confirm a national gambling helpline in Eswatini. Use the deposit limits and self-exclusion tools at your betting site, and speak to a doctor or counsellor if gambling is causing harm.
