1xBet betting review

1xBet offers more betting markets than any bookmaker in our data, and South Africans can bet in Rands, but it holds only a Curaçao licence. Its reported sports welcome is 200% up to R3,000 at 5x on 3-leg accas, which we can't yet confirm from official SA terms, so check the offer page before you deposit.

03Our review

What 1xBet is

1xBet is one of the largest international online bookmakers, known for an enormous sportsbook, heavy sponsorship and aggressive bonuses. It accepts South African players, offers Rand accounts and runs a .co.za domain, but it’s licensed in Curaçao, not by any of our provincial boards. It has also faced regulatory action and bans in several countries.

That puts it in a grey zone you should understand before you sign up, and we cover it in the licence section below. Our partner button for 1xBet currently goes to our featured offshore pick, 1Win, because we don’t have a 1xBet link; the button says so. This review is about betting. The slots and casino package are covered in our 1xBet casino review.

Review sites report the following sports welcome for South Africa. We haven’t been able to read the official SA terms (the site blocks automated checks), so we list it as unconfirmed:

  • Match: 200% of your first deposit, up to R3,000
  • Wagering: 5x the bonus
  • Qualifying bets: accumulators of three or more legs, with at least three legs at 1.4 or more

What that means in Rands

A R1,000 deposit would bring R2,000 of bonus. At 5x you’d need R10,000 of accumulator bets to release it. A deposit of R1,500 maxes out the R3,000 bonus and needs R15,000 of turnover.

Three-leg accas at 1.40 a leg are about 2.74 combined, which is a reasonable price for an acca. The challenge is the volume. R10,000 of accas means a lot of slips, each carrying the bookmaker’s margin three times over. Expect to lose some of the bonus while clearing it, and size your deposit to what you’d bet anyway.

1xBet bonuses also tend to come with a time limit and rules about which bets count. Check them on the bonus page, and use our wagering calculator to see the total you’d need to stake.

How to sign up and claim

  1. Open 1xBet’s South African site and choose registration by phone or email. Select South Africa and ZAR as your country and currency: the currency can’t usually be changed later.
  2. Fill in your profile with your real details. The name and ID number must match the documents you’ll upload, or withdrawals will stall.
  3. Opt in to the sports welcome bonus, if it’s offered, before you deposit.
  4. Make your first deposit by EFT, card, Skrill or crypto.
  5. Place accumulators that meet the leg count and odds rules until the bonus is released.

Promo codes

1xBet is known for promo codes that pop up on third-party sites. Many are affiliate codes that credit someone else, and some don’t work in South Africa. You don’t need one to get the standard welcome bonus. We don’t list third-party codes.

Odds and margins

On the biggest football matches, 1xBet’s prices are often among the sharpest available, which is part of its global appeal. The flip side of a sportsbook this large is that margins vary a lot. On obscure leagues, novelty markets and long-tail props, the prices can be far less generous than the headline numbers suggest.

A good habit is to compare the price of any bet over a few hundred Rand with one local bookmaker. Our odds converter shows the implied probability, so you can see how much margin each price contains.

Markets: the main draw

Football, local and global

1xBet prices the Betway Premiership (PSL), Bafana Bafana and AFCON, as well as the EPL, Champions League and La Liga. Beyond that it covers lower leagues from dozens of countries. Some local cups aren’t confirmed, such as the Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout, so check the PSL section if those matter to you. Our PSL betting sites list compares local depth.

Market depth per match is where it stands out. A single EPL fixture can carry hundreds of options: corners, cards, player shots, exact scores, handicaps by the quarter goal and more.

Cricket and rugby

The Proteas, SA20 and IPL are all covered, with ball-by-ball style markets on the bigger matches. The Springboks and URC are in, though the Currie Cup isn’t confirmed in our data.

Horse racing

International racing is listed. South African meetings aren’t confirmed, so for Greyville or Turffontein a local bookmaker from our horse racing betting sites list is a safer bet.

Esports and virtuals

1xBet has a large esports section, with CS2, Dota 2 and League of Legends among the titles, plus virtual sports that run around the clock. It also has tennis, golf, boxing and MMA. What it doesn’t have is South African Lucky Numbers in the local sense, or Betgames’ SA-facing products in our data.

Live betting and cash-out

1xBet’s in-play section is one of the biggest anywhere, with live odds on thousands of events a day and live streams or animated trackers on many. Cash-out is widely offered, including partial cash-out on some bets. As with any bookmaker, the cash-out price contains a margin; use it when your view of the bet has genuinely changed.

The sheer volume can be a trap. Round-the-clock live markets make it easy to keep betting long after you meant to stop. Set a time limit as well as a deposit limit.

Apps

1xBet has an Android app, downloaded as an APK from its own site (Google Play doesn’t carry real-money betting apps for every market), and an iOS app. The apps carry the full sportsbook, live streams and cashier. Install the Android file only from the official domain: fake 1xBet APKs circulate on other sites.

Deposits and withdrawals

The cashier lists:

Rand-friendly local methods such as Ozow, Capitec Pay and vouchers aren’t confirmed for 1xBet in our data. The minimum deposit is very low (R7), and withdrawals are reported at 2-24 hours once your identity is verified.

Players do report verification requests at the withdrawal stage, sometimes asking for extra documents. Verify your account fully before your first big win, and withdraw to the same method you deposited with where possible.

Licence and what it means for you

1xBet’s Curaçao licence is the key issue for South Africans:

  • No local dispute route. Provincial boards have no power over 1xBet. If a bet is voided or a withdrawal is held, your only options are 1xBet’s own support and the Curaçao regulator.
  • Legal grey area. South African law licenses online betting provincially. Using an offshore book isn’t the same protection as using a licensed one, and banks sometimes block card payments to offshore gambling sites.
  • Your money, your risk. Player funds at an offshore operator aren’t protected by South African rules on segregated accounts.

If those points worry you, the best betting sites list shows provincially licensed bookmakers first. Our responsible gambling page explains the protections in more detail.

Support

1xBet offers live chat and email support through its site. Support is available around the clock, but answers about disputed bets come from 1xBet’s own rules, not a South African regulator.

1xBet or 1Win?

Both are big international books that take Rands under a Curaçao licence, so South Africans often compare them. 1Win is our featured offshore pick: it has a large deposit bonus for South Africans, Aviator and crash games front and centre, and local-friendly payments. 1xBet’s edge is sheer sportsbook size, especially in live betting and niche leagues. Neither replaces a provincially licensed bookmaker for security. Here they are side by side:

Who 1xBet suits

  • Market hunters who want props, lower leagues and niche sports no local book prices.
  • Live bettors who like streams and lots of in-play choice.
  • Crypto users, given the long list of coins.

It suits punters who want the security of a South African licence, or who bet mainly on racing and Lucky Numbers, much less well.

Verdict

1xBet’s strengths are real: unmatched market depth, a big live section with streams, Rand accounts, low minimums and a large reported welcome bonus. For a punter who wants to bet on Brazilian Serie B corners at 2am, nothing local comes close.

The weaknesses are just as real: a Curaçao licence with no South African dispute route, an unconfirmed welcome offer, a thin list of local payment methods, and a reputation for strict checks at withdrawal. Our advice is to keep your main betting with a provincially licensed bookmaker and treat any offshore account as secondary, with money you can afford to lose.

Betting with a 24/7 sportsbook needs firm limits. Set them before you start, and call the free NRGP helpline on 0800 006 008 if betting is causing you stress.

What players say about 1xBet

30 player comments carried over from our old site (they had no star ratings). New reviews are rated out of 5 stars.

  • mmapula

Recommended xBet to my colleague and he loves it too. The referral bonus was a nice touch. Good to see a casino that actually rewards loyal players.

  • Kobus

Played the progressive jackpots at xBet and almost hit big. So close lol. Will keep trying. At least the base games pay out decently while you chase the big one.

  • zinhle_h

Ok so the good: great game selection, easy deposits, nice welcome bonus. The bad: withdrawal could be faster and the mobile site sometimes glitches. Overall xBet is still worth it though especially if you are in SA and want to play in ZAR.

  • Petrus

Solid casino. Been here about 4 months.

  • nokuthula

Customer support is 24/7 which is a plus

  • Mandla

Honestly xBet surprised me. Was not expecting much based on some other reviews I read but my personal experience has been positive. The site works well, games are fun and I have had no problems with deposits or withdrawals. Will update this review if anything changes.

R800 win on my first session. Nice.

  • Siyabonga

5 stars from me. xBet has been solid since day one. Good games, fast deposits, and the bonuses actually have fair wagering requirements. Some of these other casinos have 60x wagering which is basically impossible to clear. At least here its reasonable.

  • busi_z

Just ok. Nothing special but nothing terrible either.

  • Werner

The thing I like most about xBet is that everything is in Rands. No USD nonsense. What you see is what you get. Deposited with Instant EFT and it was in my account before I could even navigate to the games page. Withdrew twice and both times it came through in a few days.

  • ntombi_r

Wish they had more table games but slots are fire

  • Kagiso

Been playing at xBet on and off for a while now. Its reliable which is the main thing I look for. Had one issue with a bonus not crediting but support sorted it out within the hour. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent online casino in South Africa.

  • dikeledi

    Best SA casino imo

  • Francois

Joined xBet recently. The registration was straightforward and I was playing within a few minutes. The game selection is solid, especially the slots. Have not tried withdrawing yet but deposits were instant so hoping cashouts are just as smooth.

  • anele_x

    Works great on Android.

  • Sizwe

Lost a bit this month lol but thats gambling I guess. xBet is still my go-to though. Interface is clean and games load fast on my phone. Cant complain about the platform itself.

  • carmen_a

Easy deposits via EFT. Takes seconds.

  • jabu88

I play at like 5 different SA casinos and xBet is probably in my top 3. The welcome bonus got me started nicely and I like that they keep sending reload offers every week. Some sites just forget about you after you sign up but these guys keep the promos coming.

  • Refilwe

Support was helpful when I had a verification issue

  • heinrich

I mainly play here for the live casino and its really good. Blackjack tables run smooth with no lag. Only complaint is I wish they had more roulette variants but overall I am happy with xBet. The ZAR deposits make it easy, no messing around with currency conversion.

  • thembi_s

    Not bad at all

  • Andre

Good slots selection. 7/10 from me.

  • precious

My mate told me about xBet and I was skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. Put in R500 to start, played some slots and managed to build it up to about R1,800 before withdrawing. Whole process was smooth. Impressed so far, will definitely be back.

  • LuckyC

Quick sign up. Got the bonus instantly.

  • fatima.p

Been gambling online for years and xBet is one of the better ones available in SA right now. The game variety is decent, deposits with EFT are instant and I have not had any issues with payouts. Not perfect but definitely above average compared to some of the other sites I have used.

  • Mpho

Withdrew R2,400 last week no problems.

  • zodwa_m

Anyone else having issues with xBet loading on iPhone? Works fine on my laptop but mobile is slow sometimes. Games are solid though when it works. Support told me to clear my cache and it helped a bit.

  • Danie

    Decent site. Bonus was good.

  • nonhla

So I have been using xBet for about 3 months now and honestly its been a mixed bag. The slots are great and I hit a nice win on my second week but the withdrawal took longer than I expected. EFT came through eventually though. Will keep playing here for now but they need to speed up the cashouts.
