What Orange Money is

Orange Money is the mobile money service of the Orange group, the French telecom operator with networks across Africa. Your wallet is linked to your Orange number: you load it at an Orange shop or agent, then pay, send money and buy credit with a secret code. You can use it by USSD from any phone or through the Orange Money and Max it apps.

It runs in more than a dozen countries, mostly in French-speaking West and Central Africa: Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic, plus Madagascar, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Botswana. In the CFA franc zone the wallet holds West African (XOF) or Central African (XAF) francs.

Where you can bet with Orange Money

Among the international brands we cover, 1Win takes Orange Money for deposits and withdrawals in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, and our checks found Orange Money deposits at 1xBet and Melbet in Côte d’Ivoire. The table above shows what we could confirm.

In Senegal, Orange Money competes head to head with Wave, and many players keep both. In Côte d’Ivoire, the cashier usually lists Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Moov Money and Wave side by side. Our country guides for Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon cover the local picture.

Cashiers differ by country, so check that Orange Money is listed for yours before you sign up.

How a deposit works

  1. Choose Orange Money in the cashier and enter the amount in francs.
  2. Enter the Orange number registered on your account.
  3. Confirm the payment: a USSD prompt asks for your secret code, or you approve it in the Orange Money or Max it app. Some sites ask you to generate a payment code by USSD first.
  4. Wait for the confirmation SMS, and keep its reference in case the deposit doesn’t show.

Deposits are usually credited within minutes, though one review we read put Orange Money at around 15 minutes at busy times, slower than Wave.

Fees and limits

Betting sites rarely add a fee for Orange Money. Orange’s own tariffs depend on the country and the type of transaction, and a withdrawal at an agent costs more than a payment between wallets. Sites also set a minimum deposit, often around 500 to 1,000 FCFA, and a maximum per transaction; check both in the cashier.

Withdrawing to Orange Money

Most sites pay back by the method you deposited with, so if you want winnings on Orange Money, deposit with it too. Before your first withdrawal:

  1. Verify your identity with an ID document.
  2. Make sure the Orange number on your account is registered in your own name.
  3. Clear any bonus wagering.
  4. Check the minimum withdrawal and any processing time shown in the cashier.

Staying safe

Only pay through the site’s own cashier. Ignore people on WhatsApp or Telegram who offer to fund your account if you send them Orange Money: the bookmaker never sees that money, and you can’t recover it. Set a deposit limit before you start, and take breaks with the time-out and self-exclusion tools. Our responsible gambling tools guide shows how.

Other ways to pay

Wave is the low-fee alternative in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, Moov Money covers Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger, and MTN MoMo is strong in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire. Crypto such as Tether (USDT) works at nearly every offshore site.
