Online casinos and betting in Cameroon
Sports betting, including online, is legal in Cameroon through PMUC and private operators licensed under the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT), but the rules for online casinos are unclear. Most players pay with MTN MoMo or Orange Money, and offshore casinos that accept Cameroonians are licensed abroad.

What the law says in Cameroon
Cameroon regulates games of chance through the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT). Under that system:
- Sports betting is licensed, and that includes online betting. PMUC and licensed private operators offer it.
- Online casinos are unclear. We could not find a clear licensing route for online slots and casino tables aimed at Cameroonian players.
We could not confirm a minimum gambling age in our data, or an official MINAT page dedicated to gambling licences. Licensed operators carry out their own age checks, and you should only bet as an adult.
This is general information about how the market works, not legal advice. Rules and enforcement can change.
PMUC, Premier Bet and the local market
Two licensed local names appear in our data:
- PMUC, the Pari Mutuel Urbain Camerounais, long known for horse-racing pools and now a major sports betting operator.
- Premier Bet, a bookmaker that operates in several African countries.
Both work in CFA francs (XAF), take mobile money and cover Elite One, Cameroon’s top football league, alongside European football. Because they are licensed locally, a Cameroonian authority stands behind them, which isn’t true of offshore sites.
International brands that accept Cameroonians
The list above shows the brands that accept players from Cameroon, starting with 1Win. It includes the 1xBet family (1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, Betwinner, Megapari, PariPesa), Mostbet, and the crypto casinos BC.Game, Cloudbet and Rollbit.
The 1xBet family has a visible presence in Cameroon. Still, all of these brands are licensed abroad, mostly in Curaçao, with BC.Game in Anjouan. Before choosing one over a local operator:
- Know where complaints go. MINAT has no say over an offshore licence. Disputes go to the foreign regulator.
- Remember the casino side is unclear. Offshore casino lobbies are the part of the market Cameroonian law doesn’t clearly license.
- Read the bonus terms. 1Win advertises a 500% welcome package across several deposits, but we have not confirmed its terms for Cameroon. Our wagering requirements guide shows how to work out what a bonus costs to clear.
What the offshore brands offer is choice: thousands of slots, live casino, crash games such as Aviator and betting markets on leagues worldwide, often in French and English.
Paying with mobile money
Cameroon’s betting market runs on two wallets:
- MTN MoMo, which our MTN MoMo page covers in more detail.
- Orange Money.
Local operators accept both directly, and some international brands offer them in the cashier for Cameroon. Other options at offshore sites are Visa cards, which banks can decline for gambling, and Tether (USDT), which is fast but adds exchange costs and price risk.
The CFA franc and the euro. The Central African CFA franc is pegged to the euro. If an offshore site holds your balance in euros, the exchange rate is stable, but you can still lose a little on each conversion through fees and spreads. A balance in US dollars adds genuine currency risk.
Before your first withdrawal:
- Verify your account with ID and proof of address.
- Withdraw to the same wallet you deposited from.
- Check daily wallet limits: a big win may need several withdrawals.
A bonus worked out in CFA francs
Here’s why the wagering matters more than the headline percentage. A simple example, not tied to any brand: you deposit CFA 10,000 and receive a 100% match, another CFA 10,000 in bonus money. With 30x wagering on the bonus, you must bet CFA 300,000 before withdrawing. At slots returning around 96% over time, that turnover costs about CFA 12,000 on average, more than the bonus. A smaller bonus with lower wagering is often the better deal.
Football and basketball
Football is a national passion. Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions are among Africa’s most famous national teams, and Elite One is widely followed at home. Betting volume, though, goes mostly on Europe: France’s Ligue 1, the English Premier League, the Champions League and La Liga.
Basketball is the second sport in our data, with Cameroonian players well represented in leagues abroad, which drives interest in international basketball markets. If you like building multibets on weekend football, read our guide to accumulator betting first: every extra leg multiplies the bookmaker’s margin.
Local or offshore: which suits you?
Cameroon is one of the few Central African countries where you have a real local choice. A licensed operator such as PMUC or Premier Bet works in CFA francs, pays straight to your mobile wallet and sits under Cameroonian oversight. For weekend football and Elite One, that covers what most bettors need.
An offshore site adds thousands of casino games, deeper in-play markets and bigger percentage bonuses. In exchange, you lose local oversight, may lose money on currency conversion and depend on a foreign regulator if anything goes wrong. If you go that way, keep stakes small until your first withdrawal has arrived.
Scams to avoid
Cameroon’s big betting market attracts scams. Be wary of:
- fixed-match sellers, who are always lying;
- “agents” asking you to send mobile money to a personal number to fund your account;
- fake apps shared on messaging groups; only install apps linked from the operator’s official site;
- calls or SMS asking for your PIN, which no real operator or wallet provider will ever request.
Responsible gambling in Cameroon
We could not confirm a national gambling helpline in Cameroon. Licensed operators and the bigger offshore sites offer account tools, so use them:
- set a deposit limit before you start;
- take a time-out when you notice yourself chasing losses;
- self-exclude at every site if betting is hurting your money or family;
- talk to someone, or use a free online service such as Gambling Therapy.
Betting is entertainment, not income. Our responsible gambling tools guide explains every limit.
Cameroon and its neighbours
Cameroon has the most developed betting market in Central Africa. Gabon has its state-backed PMUG, Chad and the Republic of the Congo have no specific online framework, and Equatorial Guinea has no identified online gambling law.
In short
- Sports betting, including online, is licensed in Cameroon under MINAT; PMUC and Premier Bet are local operators.
- Online casino rules are unclear.
- MTN MoMo and Orange Money are the main payment methods.
- 1Win and the brands above accept Cameroonians under foreign licences.
- Set your limits before you bet.
