Online casinos and betting in Egypt

Online gambling is not legal for Egyptians: the law bars citizens from gambling, there is no licence for online casinos or betting, and the authorities block offshore sites, including 1xBet in 2026. Some international brands, 1Win among them, still accept Egyptian accounts, so the legal and payment risk is yours.

Where Egyptian law stands

Egypt’s rules are simple to state and strict in practice. Egyptian citizens are not allowed to gamble. The country does have licensed land-based casinos, mainly in hotels, but they may admit foreign passport holders only. There is no licensing route for online casinos or online sports betting, so no website is authorised to take bets from people in Egypt.

The authorities also act against offshore sites. Industry reporting from February 2026 described Egypt blocking 1xBet, one of the biggest betting brands in Africa. Blocks like this tend to come in waves, so a site that works today may not tomorrow.

This summary reflects our research in November 2026. It is not legal advice: if you need to know where you personally stand, ask an Egyptian lawyer.

Why offshore brands still appear on this page

The list above shows the international brands that accept Egyptian accounts, according to their own restricted-country lists, with 1Win first. We show them because they do take sign-ups from Egypt and people search for them. Their presence on the list is not a statement that they are legal in Egypt; they are not.

The brands are:

  • 1Win, licensed in Curaçao, with a casino, live tables, its own crash games and a sportsbook.
  • The 1xBet family: 1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, Betwinner, Megapari and PariPesa. 1xBet itself is the one Egypt blocked.
  • Mostbet, which has a visible presence in Egypt.
  • Crypto brands: BC.Game, Cloudbet and Rollbit.

The risks, in plain terms

If you are thinking of using an offshore site from Egypt, these are the risks to weigh:

  1. The law. Gambling by citizens is prohibited. A foreign licence does not change that.
  2. Blocks. Sites can become unreachable without warning, sometimes with money still in your account.
  3. Payments. Egyptian banks and wallets can decline or question payments to gambling sites.
  4. No local complaint route. Every brand on the list is licensed offshore (mostly Curaçao; BC.Game in Anjouan). If a withdrawal is refused, no Egyptian regulator can step in. Our guide to offshore licences explains what the foreign regulators can and can’t do.

None of this is meant to tell you what to do. It is meant to make sure the trade-off is visible before you decide.

How payments work for Egyptians

Egypt has one of the busiest digital payment scenes in the region, and our data lists these methods:

  • Fawry, the national bill-payment network with outlets everywhere, plus its wallet;
  • Vodafone Cash, the largest mobile wallet, alongside Orange Cash and e& money;
  • InstaPay, the instant bank-transfer app;
  • Meeza, the domestic card scheme, and international Visa and Mastercard cards;
  • Tether (USDT), the stablecoin that offshore players use most.

Because gambling is prohibited, the domestic options are the most likely to be declined at an offshore cashier, and using them leaves a clear record with your bank or wallet provider. That is why crypto is so common among offshore players. It has its own risks: price moves, conversion spreads, and transfers that can’t be reversed if you send coins to the wrong address or a fake site.

Your account will normally be held in US dollars, euros or a stablecoin rather than Egyptian pounds (EGP, E£), so you pay a conversion spread on the way in and again on the way out. Small amounts that look free often aren’t.

Withdrawals and verification

Offshore sites ask for identity documents before the first withdrawal, and sometimes proof of address or of the payment method. If you are going to play at all, complete verification before you deposit much, so a winning balance isn’t stuck while documents are checked.

Withdraw winnings rather than letting them build up. A balance sitting on a site that could be blocked is a balance at risk.

Clone sites and fake apps

Blocking has a side effect that catches many Egyptian players out: when a well-known site disappears, copies appear. Some are “mirror” addresses run by the operator; many are clones built to collect deposits and logins. A clone can look identical to the real site and still never pay out.

A few habits lower the risk:

  • reach a brand only through an address you have used before or one listed on its official social channels, not through links in messages or ads;
  • never install a betting app from a file someone sends you. Offshore brands distribute Android apps from their own sites, so the source matters;
  • be wary of “agents” who offer to fund your account for a fee. If the money goes missing, there is no one to complain to.

If you have any doubt about whether a site is genuine, don’t deposit.

Bonuses: read past the percentage

International brands advertise large welcome packages. On this page they appear as percentages and spins only, because the amounts in our data are set for South Africa and don’t apply in Egypt. 1Win’s package, for instance, is a 500% match spread over your first deposits in the version we track, but the cap and conditions for Egypt are set in its cashier.

The terms matter more than the headline: wagering, expiry, game weighting and the maximum stake while the bonus is live. Our explainer on bonus terms and conditions covers the clauses that most often catch players out.

Egyptian football and the wider sports picture

Football dominates. The Egyptian Premier League is one of Africa’s strongest domestic competitions, and the rivalry between Al Ahly and Zamalek is one of the biggest fixtures on the continent. Egyptian clubs are regulars in the later rounds of the CAF Champions League. Abroad, Egyptian fans follow the Premier League closely, with the Champions League and La Liga close behind.

Handball and squash are the other sports Egyptians care about. Egypt has produced many of the world’s top squash players, and the national handball team is one of Africa’s strongest. Offshore books cover international handball; squash markets are rare and thin.

If gambling is becoming a problem

We could not confirm a national gambling helpline in Egypt, and because gambling is illegal for citizens, people often feel they can’t ask for help. You can. A doctor can refer you to support confidentially, and Gamblers Anonymous runs online meetings that anyone can join.

On any site you use, set a deposit limit first, use time-outs or self-exclusion when you need them, and remove saved payment details. Our guide to responsible gambling tools shows where to find them.

Elsewhere in North Africa

Rules vary across the region. Morocco runs legal sports betting through a state monopoly, Libya bans gambling entirely, and in Sudan gambling is a criminal offence and the war makes payments even harder.

Frequently asked questions

Is online betting legal in Egypt?

No. Egyptian law bars citizens from gambling, there is no licensing route for online casinos or sports betting, and the authorities block offshore betting sites. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Can Egyptians go to a casino in Egypt?

Licensed land-based casinos in Egypt may admit foreign passport holders only. Egyptian citizens are not allowed to gamble in them.

Is 1xBet blocked in Egypt?

Yes. Egypt blocked 1xBet in February 2026, according to industry reporting. The brand still accepts Egyptian accounts, but a blocked site is a clear sign that the authorities treat it as illegal.

Does 1Win accept players from Egypt?

Egypt is not on 1Win's restricted-country list, so registration is open. 1Win is licensed in Curaçao, not in Egypt, so using it is not legal locally and no Egyptian body can help in a dispute.

Which payment methods do Egyptians use online?

Fawry, Vodafone Cash, InstaPay, Meeza cards, Visa and Mastercard are the main ones in our data, with USDT as the crypto option. Banks and wallets can decline gambling payments, so many offshore players end up using crypto.

Is there a gambling helpline in Egypt?

We could not confirm a national gambling helpline in Egypt. Use the deposit limits and self-exclusion tools on any site, and talk to a doctor or Gamblers Anonymous's online meetings if gambling is causing harm.
