Online casinos and betting in Comoros

Comoros has no domestic online gambling framework that we could identify, so the legal position for local players is unclear. The island of Anjouan issues offshore gaming licences, but those licences are for operators serving foreign markets, not for Comorians.

A small country with a famous licence

Comoros is an unusual case. At home, we could not find any domestic framework for online casinos or online betting: no local licence, no named regulator for online play and no clear rule on whether residents may use foreign sites. Both online columns in our data are marked unclear, and we could not confirm a minimum age.

Yet the name of one of its islands appears on many gambling sites around the world. Anjouan issues offshore gaming licences to operators that serve players in other countries. In our own data, BC.Game holds an Anjouan licence.

The key point: an Anjouan licence is aimed at foreign markets. It is not a licence to serve players in Comoros, and it doesn’t make online gambling legal for Comorians. This guide describes the situation; it is not legal advice.

Why BC.Game is missing from the list

BC.Game shows how offshore licensing works in practice. It is licensed in Anjouan, yet its terms list the Union of Comoros as a restricted country, so it does not accept Comorian players. That’s why it isn’t on the list above, even though it appears for almost every other African country.

It is a useful reminder that offshore licences are built for export: the licence tells you which authority oversees the operator, not which countries it may legally serve.

Brands that do accept Comorian players

The list above shows the brands that accept players from Comoros, starting with 1Win. Next come the 1xBet family (1xBet, 22Bet, Melbet, Betwinner, Megapari and PariPesa) and the crypto casinos Cloudbet and Rollbit.

These are licensed in Curaçao. Before you join one:

  • Check the licence details in the footer, and look the operator up. Our 1Win review shows what a licence disclosure should look like.
  • Expect complaints to go abroad. There is no Comorian body that handles online gambling disputes.
  • Read the bonus terms. 1Win advertises a 500% welcome package over several deposits, but we have not confirmed its terms for Comoros. Our wagering requirements guide shows how to work out what a bonus will cost you to clear.

Payments: bank transfer and USDT

Our data shows no mobile money wallet commonly used for betting in Comoros. The practical options are:

  • Bank transfer, which is slow and not offered by every site, and may involve international transfer fees.
  • Crypto, mainly Tether (USDT), which is fast and widely accepted offshore.

USDT is a dollar-linked stablecoin, so it removes some currency risk while it sits in your wallet. But you still pay a spread when you buy it with Comorian francs (KMF) and when you sell it back, and you must send it on the network the casino names. Mistakes can’t be reversed. Our crypto casino guide explains wallets and networks.

Buying crypto safely. If you buy USDT from a peer-to-peer seller, use an exchange’s escrow service rather than paying a stranger directly, and never release payment details outside the platform. Start with a small test transfer to the casino, confirm it arrives, and only then send the rest. Keep the transaction IDs: if a deposit goes missing, the casino’s support team will ask for them.

Currency. The Comorian franc is not an account currency at offshore sites. Your balance will usually be in US dollars, euros or crypto, so think in those terms and allow for conversion costs.

Verification. Reputable sites ask for ID before the first withdrawal. Upload it early so your payout isn’t held.

Telling a real licence from a weak one

Because Comoros lends its name to offshore licensing, players there often see “licensed in Anjouan” or “licensed in Curaçao” on gambling sites. A licence is a minimum requirement, not a seal of quality. When you weigh up a site:

  • Look for a licence number and the name of the company that holds it. Vague claims like “fully licensed” with no number are a warning.
  • Check the operator’s track record. How long has the brand been running, and what do players report about withdrawals?
  • Read the restricted-country list. If your country is on it, the operator can close your account and may void your winnings. BC.Game’s exclusion of Comoros is a good example of why this matters.
  • Read the withdrawal terms: minimums, limits, processing times and which methods pay out.

Language and support

Comorian, Arabic and French are the main languages in Comoros. Many international sites offer a French version, which makes terms and conditions easier to follow, and some offer Arabic. Before depositing, check that customer support answers in a language you are comfortable with, because a misunderstood bonus rule is a common reason winnings are voided.

Football and the leagues people follow

Football is the main sport. The Comoros Premier League is the domestic competition, but betting interest goes mostly to France’s Ligue 1, given the strong ties with France, plus the English Premier League, Champions League and La Liga.

Responsible gambling

We could not confirm a national gambling helpline in Comoros. With no local regulator for online play, your account tools matter most:

  • Set a deposit limit before you start.
  • Use time-outs and reality checks.
  • Self-exclude at every site you use if you need a break.
  • Talk to someone, or use a free online service such as Gambling Therapy.

Never gamble to make money or to cover debts. Our responsible gambling tools guide explains each limit.

Comoros among the Indian Ocean islands

Of the island states, Mauritius has the most developed regulator, Seychelles regulates casinos and lotteries, and Madagascar has a lottery and land-based casinos. Comoros has no domestic online rules, but its island of Anjouan licenses operators worldwide.

Key points

  • Comoros has no domestic online gambling framework; the legal position for locals is unclear.
  • Anjouan offshore licences are for foreign markets, not for Comorian players.
  • BC.Game, though licensed in Anjouan, restricts Comoros.
  • 1Win, the 1xBet family, Cloudbet and Rollbit accept Comorian players under foreign licences.
  • Bank transfer and USDT are the main payment methods.
