How to deposit with Ozow and Capitec Pay
Ozow lets you pay from any major South African bank by approving the payment in your banking app; Capitec Pay does the same for Capitec clients using your cellphone or ID number. Both reflect instantly, are usually free, and a few bookmakers also pay withdrawals back through them.

How Ozow works
Ozow is an instant EFT provider. When you choose it, the site hands you to Ozow’s secure page, you pick your bank, and you approve the payment through your bank’s own security (app approval or online banking login with an OTP). The money moves directly from your account to the merchant, and the betting site gets confirmation in seconds.
Ozow supports Absa, African Bank, Bidvest Bank, Capitec, FNB, Investec, Nedbank, Standard Bank and TymeBank, according to its published bank list.
Depositing with Ozow, step by step
- Log in to the betting site and open the cashier.
- Choose Ozow and enter the amount.
- Pick your bank from the list on Ozow’s page.
- Approve the payment. Depending on your bank, you’ll log in to online banking and enter an OTP, or approve a notification in your banking app.
- Return to the site. The deposit shows in your balance straight away.
If you close the window before approving, nothing is paid. Start again from the cashier.
How Capitec Pay works
Capitec Pay is Capitec’s own payment service. Instead of logging in to online banking, you identify yourself with your cellphone number, ID number or Capitec account number, and approve the payment in the Capitec app with your Remote PIN or biometrics. You never type a banking password into anyone else’s page.
Depositing with Capitec Pay, step by step
- Open the cashier on the betting site.
- Choose Capitec Pay and enter the amount.
- Enter your cellphone number, ID number or Capitec account number.
- Approve the notification in your Capitec app. You usually have about five minutes.
- If no notification arrives, open the Capitec app and go to Transact, then Capitec Pay, then Approve.
- The deposit reflects instantly.
Which sites accept them
Ozow is accepted at most South African licensed bookmakers and some offshore casinos. Capitec Pay is newer and accepted at fewer sites, but the number is growing. From our data:
- Capitec Pay: Betway, Playabets, Goldrush, YesPlay and PantherBet, among others.
- Ozow: Hollywoodbets, Betway, Easybet, Supabets, 10bet and many more. 1Win also lists Ozow for deposits.
Minimum deposits vary by site and method, commonly R10 to R20. Each payment page shows the minimums we’ve recorded.
Withdrawals
Depositing with Ozow or Capitec Pay doesn’t automatically mean you can withdraw that way. Most sites pay withdrawals by EFT to the bank account you’ve registered. A few pay back through the same rails, which can be much faster:
- Capitec Pay withdrawals are listed at Playabets and PantherBet in our data.
- Ozow withdrawals are listed at 10bet, Easybet and Goldrush, among others.
Either way, you’ll need to complete FICA verification before your first withdrawal, and the bank account must be in your own name. Our fastest withdrawals guide compares methods and payout times.
Ozow, Capitec Pay and bonuses
Both methods usually qualify for welcome bonuses at South African bookmakers. As always, check the bonus terms for:
- the minimum deposit for the bonus, which is often higher than the method’s minimum,
- any excluded payment methods,
- whether you need to opt in or enter a code first.
Our guide to bonus terms that cost you money explains the rest.
A worked example
Say you bank with Capitec and want to deposit R200 to claim a welcome bonus with a R50 minimum.
- You opt in to the bonus on the promotions page.
- In the cashier you choose Capitec Pay, enter R200 and your cellphone number.
- Your phone buzzes; you open the Capitec app and approve with your fingerprint.
- The R200 and the bonus show in your balance within seconds.
- Later, with R450 in withdrawable balance, you request a withdrawal. If the site supports Capitec Pay withdrawals, it may arrive within a couple of hours; otherwise it’s paid by EFT, which can take longer.
Had you banked with FNB or Standard Bank, you’d do the same through Ozow, approving in your own banking app.
Problems and fixes
- No Capitec notification: open the app, go to Transact, Capitec Pay, Approve. Check that notifications are on and your app is up to date.
- Ozow payment failed: check that your account has enough available balance, including any pending debit orders, and try again from the cashier.
- Money left your account but didn’t reflect: wait 15 minutes and refresh. Then contact the betting site’s support with the time, amount and the Ozow or Capitec reference from your bank statement.
- Bank declined a gambling payment: some banks or account types limit gambling transactions. Contact your bank.
Ozow and Capitec Pay vs card payments
Many South Africans still deposit by Visa or Mastercard. Compared with cards, Ozow and Capitec Pay:
- don’t store card details with the betting site, so there’s nothing to leak or reuse,
- are less likely to be declined, because some card issuers block gambling merchants,
- usually reflect just as fast, and are often cheaper for the site, which is why many bookmakers promote them,
- can’t be used for chargebacks in the same way as cards, so make sure you’re paying the right site before you approve.
If you’d rather keep gambling separate from your bank account altogether, a cash voucher is the alternative.
Safety tips
- Only start a payment from the site’s own cashier. Never approve a Capitec Pay request or follow an Ozow link you didn’t start yourself.
- Never share your banking password, OTP or Remote PIN with anyone, including someone claiming to be from the betting site.
- Check the amount in your banking app before you approve.
Use instant payments carefully
Because Ozow and Capitec Pay are so quick, it’s easy to deposit again and again in one sitting. Set a deposit limit on your betting account; it applies whatever method you use. If you prefer a hard cash limit, a voucher does the same job differently.
The bottom line
Ozow and Capitec Pay are the fastest, simplest ways to fund a South African betting account from your bank, and both keep your banking details away from the betting site. Approve only payments you started, check the bonus minimums, verify your account before you need to withdraw, and keep to a budget you can afford.
