Starlight Princess slot demo

What Starlight Princess is

Starlight Princess is a 2021 slot from Pragmatic Play with an anime-style princess floating beside the reels, surrounded by stars, hearts and gems. It arrived soon after Gates of Olympus and uses the same core engine, which is why the two are often compared. It’s been especially popular in Asia and has a steady following in South Africa.

How a round works

The game uses a six-reel, five-row grid with pay anywhere: eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen win. No lines.

Tumbles remove winning symbols and drop new ones in, which can create more wins in the same spin. Multiplier orbs can land at random; when the tumbles end, the values of all orbs on screen are added and applied to the spin’s total win. A wild-like effect and random multipliers keep the base game ticking.

Free spins

Four or more scatters trigger free spins. During the round, every multiplier orb that lands adds to a running total multiplier, which applies to all wins for the rest of the feature. Extra scatters in the round add additional free spins. The game is also listed with a progressive jackpot element at some casinos.

The maximum win is 5000 times your stake.

RTP and volatility in plain words

The RTP is 95.51%, a little below the 96% average. Pragmatic supplies lower versions too, so check the info screen at your casino.

Volatility is high. Most spins return little, and the free spins carry most of the game’s value. A round with a high multiplier built early can pay well; a round where the orbs arrive late may pay very little.

Starlight Princess or Gates of Olympus?

Mechanically, they’re siblings. The differences are theme, symbol values and RTP. Gates of Olympus is slightly higher on RTP; Starlight Princess has its own fan base for the art style. If you’re choosing between them for real play, the RTP difference is small but real. For bigger multipliers, both have 1000 versions: Starlight Princess 1000 and Gates of Olympus 1000.

Reading the tumble sequence

One spin in Starlight Princess can play out over several tumbles, and the multiplier orbs are only counted at the end of the whole sequence. So an orb that lands on the first tumble of a spin that then produces no more wins applies only to the wins that came before it. In free spins, the running total keeps every orb, which is why the feature matters so much more.

Honest tips

• Play the demos side by side. The engine is the same, so pick the one you enjoy looking at, and the higher RTP if you can’t decide.
• Orbs are random. There’s no pattern to when they land.
• Bonus buys are expensive and can return less than their cost.
• Budget for dry spells. High volatility needs patience and small stakes.
