How to claim a no deposit bonus

To claim a no deposit bonus you register with your real details, verify your phone or FICA documents, and the free bet or free spins are credited without a deposit, sometimes after entering a bonus code. Expect a short expiry, wagering on winnings and a maximum cashout of a few hundred Rand.

A no deposit bonus is the only way to try a betting site or casino with its money instead of yours. They’re small, they come with conditions, and they’re easy to lose by missing a step. Here’s how to claim one properly.

What you can get without depositing

South African no deposit offers come in three main shapes:

  • Free bet on sign-up – a stake for sports or Lucky Numbers, such as R25 or R50.
  • Free spins on sign-up – a set number of spins on a named slot, usually at a fixed value per spin.
  • Free credits for a specific game, such as free flights on Aviator.

Step by step

1. Pick the offer and read the terms first

Before you register, check four things on the offer: the wagering (how many times you must play through the winnings), the maximum cashout, the expiry (often 24 hours to a few days) and which games or bets it can be used on. You’ll find all four on every offer card on this site.

2. Register through the offer page

Use the “Claim” button on the offer or go to the brand’s own site. Fill in your real details: legal name, SA ID number, date of birth and cellphone number. These must match your ID exactly, because you’ll need to pass FICA to withdraw.

3. Enter the bonus code if there is one

Most SA sign-up bonuses are credited automatically. If an offer needs a bonus code, type it into the promo code field on the registration form. Missing it is the most common reason a bonus doesn’t arrive, and it usually can’t be added afterwards.

4. Verify your phone number

Nearly every site sends an SMS one-time PIN. Some bookmakers credit the bonus only after this step.

5. Opt in or activate

Some sites credit the bonus straight away. Others put it under “Promotions”, “My bonuses” or “Free bets”, where you tap “Activate”. Free spins usually appear when you open the named slot.

6. Upload FICA documents

You can play with most no deposit bonuses before verification, but you can’t withdraw. Upload your ID and proof of address straight away so they’re approved by the time you need them.

7. Use the bonus before it expires

Expiry is short. Hollywoodbets’ sign-up spins, for example, expire after 1 day according to our data, and Supabets’ spins after 2 days. Plan to use them the day you sign up.

Turning a no deposit bonus into a withdrawal

Here’s an honest example. You get 50 free spins worth R1 each and they win R120.

  1. Wagering: at 10x winnings, you must bet R1,200 of real or bonus money on eligible games.
  2. Cost: at a typical 96% RTP, R1,200 of slot bets costs about R48 on average, so you’d expect around R72 left if you reach the end.
  3. Cap: if the max cashout is R600, you’re under it, so nothing is removed.
  4. Withdrawal: once wagering is done and FICA is approved, you can withdraw. Some sites require a minimum withdrawal or a first deposit before your first cash-out.

Most players don’t end up with a withdrawal from a no deposit bonus, and that’s fine. Its real value is a free look at the site, its games and its payout process before you decide whether to deposit. Our guide to wagering requirements explains the maths in more detail.

Free bets work differently

A sign-up free bet is usually a stake-not-returned free bet: if it wins, you get the winnings but not the stake. A R50 free bet at odds of 3.00 returns R100, not R150. Many have minimum odds (Supabets’ sign-up bet needs odds of 3 or higher) and a short expiry.

Hollywoodbets’ R25 sign-up bet can be used on sports or Lucky Numbers, and Easybet’s R50 bet also comes with 25 free spins. Compare them on our free bets page.

Which no deposit bonus to choose

The biggest number isn’t always the best offer. When you compare, look at:

  • Wagering. 3x to 10x on winnings is reasonable; anything above 30x makes a withdrawal unlikely.
  • Maximum cashout. A R1,000 cap is far more generous than R200, even on a smaller bonus.
  • Expiry. A bonus that lasts a week gives you time; one that expires overnight is easy to lose.
  • What you can use it on. If you only bet on soccer, free spins are less useful to you than a free bet, and the other way round.
  • The site itself. You’re trying it out, so pick a bookmaker with the payment methods you actually use, such as Ozow or vouchers, and a licence you’re comfortable with.

Common reasons a no deposit bonus fails

  • You already have an account, or someone in your household does. Offers are one per person, household, device and IP address.
  • You signed up through a different link or skipped the code.
  • Details don’t match your ID, so FICA fails and the bonus is voided.
  • You broke a rule, such as betting above the maximum stake while wagering or playing an excluded game.
  • It expired before you used it.

No deposit bonus codes

Only use codes published by the brand itself or shown on our offer cards. Codes passed around on social media are often another affiliate’s tracking code or are simply expired. If a “code” asks you to deposit to unlock a bigger no deposit bonus, it’s a deposit bonus by another name.

Offshore no deposit offers

Some offshore casinos advertise larger no deposit bonuses, such as R300 or R500 in free chips. They’re real, but they often carry wagering of 40x to 60x and a max cashout of a few hundred Rand, and there’s no South African board to complain to if a withdrawal is refused. Read the terms with extra care. See is online gambling legal in South Africa for what an offshore licence means.

Play it as a free trial

Treat a no deposit bonus as a free trial, not free money. If you enjoy the site, set a deposit limit before your first deposit. If gambling ever stops being fun, the National Responsible Gambling Programme is free on 0800 006 008.

Frequently asked questions

How do I claim a no deposit bonus in South Africa?

Sign up through the offer link with your real name and ID number, confirm your cellphone number, enter a bonus code if the offer has one, and opt in if asked. The free bet or spins usually appear in your account within minutes, or after FICA approval at some bookmakers.

Can I withdraw a no deposit bonus?

Not the bonus itself. You can withdraw winnings from it after you meet the wagering requirement and complete FICA, up to the maximum cashout. Some sites also ask for a small first deposit before your first withdrawal.

Which SA betting sites give free money on sign-up?

Hollywoodbets, Supabets and Easybet all have sign-up bonuses that need no deposit, as free bets or free spins. Our no deposit bonus page lists the current offers with their full terms.

Do I need a bonus code for a no deposit bonus?

Some offers need one, most South African sign-up bonuses don't. If a code is required, it's shown on the offer card. Only use a brand's own public code, entered at registration.

Why didn't I get my no deposit bonus?

The usual reasons are signing up without the offer link or code, an existing account in your household, an unverified phone number or FICA documents, or missing the opt-in step. Contact live chat with your username and the offer name.
