Bonus code

A bonus code, also called a promo or voucher code, is a word or set of characters you enter at sign-up or deposit to unlock a specific offer. Most South African sign-up bonuses don't need one; when a code is required, it must be entered before the qualifying step, as it usually can't be added later.

By Mark SmithChecked

A bonus code (or promo code) tells a casino or bookmaker which offer you want. Operators use codes to run different promotions at the same time, to track where players came from and to limit offers to certain groups.

There are a few kinds:

  • Sign-up codes, entered on the registration form to unlock a welcome or no deposit bonus.
  • Deposit codes, entered in the cashier to claim a match or reload bonus.
  • Promo codes for existing players, sent by email or SMS, or published on the operator’s promotions page.
  • Affiliate or referral codes, which link your account to a website or a friend who referred you.

A few rules keep you out of trouble:

  1. Enter the code at the right moment. Most can’t be added after you’ve registered or deposited.
  2. Use the brand’s own public codes. Codes copied from social media are often expired, region-locked or tied to someone else’s account.
  3. Read the offer terms, not just the code. The code unlocks the bonus; the wagering requirement and max cashout decide what it’s worth.
  4. Be wary of “secret” codes that ask you to deposit more to unlock bigger free offers.

Every offer card on this site shows whether a code is needed. See all current codes on our bonus codes page, and the step-by-step how to claim a no deposit bonus.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I enter a bonus code?

Usually in a 'promo code' or 'bonus code' field on the registration form, or in the cashier when you deposit. Some sites have a separate promotions page for codes.

Do I need a bonus code for SA betting sites?

Often not. Most South African sign-up offers are credited automatically when you register through the offer. If a code is needed, it's shown on the offer card.

Why didn't my bonus code work?

Common reasons are a typo, an expired code, entering it after registering or depositing, using a code meant for another country or an existing account, or not meeting the minimum deposit.
