Hex slot demo

What Hex is

Hex is a 2022 slot from Relax Gaming, a Malta-based studio that also distributes games for many smaller studios. The theme is witchcraft and curses: a dark forest, glowing runes and a coven of symbols that change form. It’s a game built for experienced slot players who like features that stack on top of each other.

Many South Africans who search “hex casino” are looking for Casino Hex, an unrelated review website. This page is about the slot.

How a round works

Hex uses five reels with 243 ways to win as its base, and features can raise the number of ways further (the game’s multiway feature). Matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left pay, in any row.

The base game has several transformation features:

• Mystery symbols land and then all turn into the same symbol, which can produce wins across many ways at once.
• Symbol swap, where symbols on the grid are changed to set up wins.
• Reelset changing, where the game switches the reel strips it uses, changing which symbols are more likely.
• Wilds that substitute for regular symbols.

Free spins and bonus buy

Scatters trigger free spins, where the transformation features are stronger and more frequent, and the number of ways can grow. This is where Hex’s very high maximum win of 25000 times your stake comes into play, though it’s reached extremely rarely.

A bonus buy is available at casinos and in regions that allow it.

RTP and volatility in plain words

The RTP is 96.43%, slightly above average. Relax offers casinos more than one RTP version for some games, so check the info screen.

Volatility is high. Most of the game’s long-run return sits in a small number of very big free spins rounds. In a typical session, expect to lose more often than you win, sometimes by a lot.

Understanding transformation features

Mystery symbols and swaps make Hex feel like it’s always about to do something big. That’s the design. The reveals are decided when the reels stop; the animation that follows is just showing you the result. Knowing that helps you avoid a common trap, which is staying in a session longer because a feature “almost” landed.

Honest tips

• Play the demo until you’ve seen a few bonuses. Note the average payout. It’s the best preview of real play.
• Bonus buy carefully. Hex’s bonus can pay far less than its price; try buying in demo first.
• Keep each spin a small share of your budget. High volatility needs room to breathe.
• Set a stop-loss and use it.

Who it suits

Hex suits players who enjoy complex, transformation-heavy slots and accept big swings. If you’d like something similar but a little gentler, ELK’s Chi or Hacksaw’s Le Bandit have demos here. For the extreme end, Nolimit City’s Mental 2 is even more volatile.

Where to play Hex for real

We haven’t confirmed which South African brands carry Relax Gaming. Large offshore lobbies are the most likely place: 1Win, featured on this site, offers 500% up to R75,000 over 4 deposits and is licensed in Curaçao.

For SA-licensed alternatives with similar volatility, look at Habanero and Pragmatic slots at Hollywoodbets and Betway. Browse all slots with free demos and check bonus wagering with the wagering calculator.
