How a round works
The Koi Gate from Habanero is set in a calm water garden, with golden koi, lotus flowers and jade tokens on five reels. It has 18 fixed lines that pay both ways: from left to right and from right to left. That’s why the game pays more often than its line count suggests.
The koi is the wild, standing in for regular symbols. In Chinese legend, a koi that swims up the waterfall and leaps the Dragon Gate becomes a dragon, which is where the name comes from.
Features
- Bothway pays on 18 lines.
- Koi wild: substitutes for paying symbols.
- Free spins with a multiplier: scatters start the round, and wins during free spins are multiplied.
- Gamble: after a win you can gamble it on a guess to double it, or collect.
- Progressive jackpot: a linked jackpot that can drop at random.
- Substitution symbols that help complete wins.
The top regular win is 480x the stake, not counting the jackpot.
RTP and volatility
The default RTP is 96.26%. For this older title, Habanero’s versions run 86%, 92%, 94%, 96% and 98%, so the default sits near the top of the range. Your casino’s version is shown in the help screen.
The game is listed as high volatility, but its top regular win is modest. In practice that means a steady base game with bothway wins, free spins that can pay a few hundred times the stake, and a jackpot as a rare bonus. A share of each stake funds the jackpot, which slightly lowers regular payouts.
Honest tips
- Skip the gamble feature unless you enjoy the risk. It’s a fair guess that doesn’t add value, and it can wipe out good wins.
- The jackpot is a lottery ticket. Don’t play The Koi Gate to win it.
- Check the RTP version before you play.
- Bothway pays make small wins frequent. Don’t mistake frequent small wins for profit; check your balance over the session.
