What Koi Koi Treasure is

Koi Koi Treasure is a 2024 slot from Habanero set around a Japanese koi pond: golden and red koi, lotus flowers, lanterns and treasure chests. The name echoes Koi-Koi, a traditional Japanese card game, but the slot has nothing to do with card play. It’s a calm, medium volatility game, which makes it a good counterpoint to Habanero’s wild releases from the same period.

How a round works

The game has five reels and 28 lines. Every spin plays all lines, and wins pay left to right for three or more matching symbols. Wilds substitute for regular symbols.

The standout feature is the mega symbol: a giant 3x3 block that can land on the middle reels. It counts as the same symbol in all nine positions, so when it lands next to matching symbols on the outer reels, it can complete many lines at once.

Free spins and bonus buy

Scatters trigger free spins, where mega symbols play a bigger part. A bonus buy lets you start the feature for a fixed price at casinos that allow it.

The maximum listed win is 1502 times your stake. That’s modest, which fits its medium volatility.

RTP and volatility in plain words

The headline RTP is 96.84%, above average. Habanero gives casinos several RTP versions, though, and some are much lower. Check the info screen in the game before you play for real.

Volatility is medium. Expect a steady flow of wins, moderate swings and a free spins round that pays decently more often than on high volatility games.

Who it suits

Koi Koi Treasure suits players who like Asian themes and calmer sessions, and who want the occasional bigger hit from the mega symbol. It’s a sensible choice for using sign-up free spins, because medium volatility tends to give steadier results. If you want something more explosive, The Big Deal Deluxe and Hot Hot Fruit are at the opposite end of Habanero’s range.

Mega symbols, explained

Giant symbols are a common slot feature, but they’re often misunderstood. They don’t add new symbols to the game; they just make a block of positions all the same. That raises the chance of a multi-line win on that spin. It doesn’t mean the game is paying back more overall; the maths already accounts for how often mega symbols land.

Playing it on mobile

Habanero builds its games for phones first, and Koi Koi Treasure plays well in portrait mode on Android and iPhone, in the demo here and inside casino apps. The giant symbols are easy to see on a small screen.

Honest tips

• Use the demo to judge the free spins. Trigger a few and note the average payout.
• Bonus buy only if you’ve budgeted for it. It costs a fixed multiple of your stake.
• Medium volatility still means losing sessions. Set a limit.
• Check the RTP version at your casino.
