Minimum odds
Minimum odds is a bonus rule that only counts bets priced at or above a set level, such as 1.50, toward wagering or a free bet. Bets at lower odds are simply ignored for the bonus.
Where minimum odds apply
- Sports welcome bonuses: the deposit and bonus must be wagered a number of times on bets at minimum odds.
- Free bet qualification: “Bet R100 at odds of 2.00 or more, get a R20 free bet.”
- Free bet use: the free bet itself may have to be placed at minimum odds.
- Multibet promotions: acca boosts and insurance usually set a minimum per leg, for example five legs at 1.50 each (Sportingbet’s multi-insurance works that way).
What it means in practice
Higher minimum odds mean riskier bets, so it’s harder to clear a bonus without losing it. Compare two offers with the same 5x wagering: one at minimum odds 1.20 and one at 2.00. The second is far tougher, because a 2.00 bet loses about half the time.
Minimum odds are written as decimal odds. If your bookmaker shows fractions, use our odds converter to check. Bets that are void or cashed out early normally don’t count either. See current offers and their rules on our free bets page.
Frequently asked questions
What does minimum odds 1.50 mean?
Each qualifying bet, or each leg of a multibet, must have decimal odds of 1.50 or higher. A bet on a 1.30 favourite would not count toward the bonus.
Do minimum odds apply to each leg or the whole accumulator?
It depends on the terms. Some bonuses require every leg to meet the minimum, others only the total odds of the slip. Read the bonus terms carefully.
Why do bookmakers set minimum odds?
Without them you could clear wagering by betting on near-certain outcomes at 1.05. Minimum odds make sure the bonus is wagered on bets with real risk.
