Spring Wilds is a New Slot Game from Realtime Gaming

Slots don’t come any cuter than RTG’s latest effort Spring Wilds – but is it any good?
Realtime Gaming has a few new slots out for March 2021, but Spring Wilds is undoubtedly the brightest and most colourful of the lot. In fact, this might even be one of the cutest slot machines I have ever seen. RTG says in their promotional materials that Spring Wilds is a slot that celebrates the arrival of Spring, leaving Winter behind, and the hope that we all feel as people at this time of the year. I think it’s fair to say that Spring Wilds does a fairly good job of meeting this brief.
Spring Wilds Overview
Spring Wilds doesn’t feature any random jackpots, so the game’s RTP is a little higher than many other RTG games which allocate 4% of the money taken in for contribution towards those progressives. RTG does not advertise the RTP of their games though, and it is widely believed that casinos can choose from several possible RTP figures when offering RTG’s games. This makes it difficult to know how good a deal you are getting as a player, which can be somewhat frustrating.

The game plays out on a standard 5×3 grid, with 25 pay lines spanning the play field. The maximum win is advertised as being 50,000x your stake, but bear in mind this is 50,000x your line bet, which means you need to divide the figure by 25. This gives a maximum win of just 2,000x your overall stake, which is a less impressive headline number but a much truer representation of this game’s potential.

Symbols & Payouts
Six royal symbols cover the bottom half of the pay table, spanning all the way from Nine to Ace. In addition to these, four animal-based picture symbols have much higher payouts attached to them which range up to 600 coins per line.
The bonus symbol featuring the spring wilds logo can cover the whole screen under certain circumstances. Because of this, the pay table shows a payout for between six and fifteen of these symbols, which will max out at 400x your stake for a full matching screen.
There is a wild symbol that does not have any special payout of its own, and only appears on reels two through five. Finally, the scatter symbol awards 10, 15 or 20 free spins for 3, 4, or 5 scatters respectively, as well as a cash prize of 1x, 10x, or 25x your overall stake.
Special Features
When six or more Spring Wilds bonus symbols appear on screen, the “Lucky Streak” feature will be triggered. When this occurs, all bonus symbols will be locked in place and the reels will re-spin. If more bonus symbols land during the re-spin, the feature will continue until no further Bonus symbols land on the next re-spin. This feature can pay up to 400x your stake.
There is also a regular free spins feature which is triggered by hitting three or more scatter symbols simultaneously. The free spins don’t have any additional features over the base game, unfortunately, although the pay table does claim that the Lucky Streak feature occurs more frequently during the free spins mode.
One very annoying thing about Spring Wilds and RTG slots, in general, is that the stated maximum win is a hard cap, and if you hit it then your bonus round will end prematurely, even if you have many free spins still left to play. In the case of this game, the maximum win is 50,000 times your bet per line, but this is only 2,000x your total stake, and it is rather disappointing to know that you will lose any remaining free spins the moment you hit 2,000x your bet.
Spring Wilds: The Verdict
It’s great to see some new games being produced by Realtime Gaming, but I don’t think Spring Wilds is their best effort. Their other new game release in March, Paddy’s Lucky Forest, seemed as if it had far more potential than this slot. It’s not a bad game by any means, and the Lucky Streak and Free Spins features do add up to a decent amount of excitement. I can’t escape the feeling that the maximum win cap of just 2,000x your stake is unacceptably low, however, so struggle to recommend this slot because of that.
