Realtime Gaming has a recent track record of developing mediocre slots, and Lucky Catch is another example of that. First launched in the summer of 2021, this game is themed on aquatic life but designed in a cartoon manner.

Bug-eyed goldfish, translucent jellies, inquisitive looking blowfish, and shifty lionfish are just a few of the characters present on the reels of this RTG release.

We must be brutally honest. There is much that is new or original about the look and interface on show here – at least, nothing you won’t have seen before. The point clearly wasn’t really to develop a new take on the underwater adventure-themed slot, though.

Will Lucky Catch Sink or Swim?

As touched on above, Lucky Catch is not the most original or authentic game when it comes to theme, but RTG isn’t relying on that. They are hoping that you find the mobile optimised interface and menus ideal. For the most part, we do.

It is easy to play this game on most mobile screen sizes, and the setup is well-suited to having a crack at spinning the reels on the move. The mobile friendliness of the release (in comparison to older underwater slots) just about keeps Lucky Catch afloat.

The payline and reel structure will be familiar to anyone who has played run-of-the-mill video slots before. Realtime Gaming has hardly rolled out the big guns here. Expect to see five reels and twenty-five paylines, with stakes costing between 0.25 and 25.00 a spin. This can rise to 125.00 a turn, depending on your RTG casino.

Prizes are reportedly worth up to 20,000x a stake, but we got nowhere near that figure. To pocket that prize, you’d need to land octopus symbols stacked on all five reels. Lucky Catch is a highly volatile release and has an RTP that should be sitting around the 96% mark.

A Bit of a Washout Concerning Features

While playing the slot, you will come across a host of symbols. These include all the sea creatures listed earlier, and others, such as turtles and the game’s logo. The latter acts as a scatter and can bestow wins worth 1x, 2x, or 5x the pay rate when 3, 4 or 5 appear anywhere on the reels.

Wild symbols also wash ashore in this game. They appear as great white sharks. Land these to see them substitute for all barring scatter symbols. It is worth noting that Bursting Wilds may appear, too. During any spin, a wild could potentially become a Bursting Wild. That will explode and transform other symbols into substitute icons to boot. This tends to occur more frequently in the free spin round.

At any point in the base game, a randomly triggered cash prize may kick into gear. When this does, you will find that you’re awarded a cash prize based on your stake (multiplied). Don’t expect this feature to occur often, but it can provide a timely (small-scale) win.

Lucky Catch Free Spins Round

There really isn’t much to Lucky Catch’s free spins round. This feature is triggered by landing three to five scatters. You’ll begin with ten, fifteen, or twenty-five spins for landing three, four or five of the game’s logo scatters. Once activated, you stand a better chance of prospering from Bursting Wilds.

At the same time, wild symbols can appear randomly on any reel at any time. You can win yet more free spins by landing further scatters, and according to the pay table, your odds of pocketing prizes via Bursting Wilds increases the longer the round goes on. We were unable to verify that, though.

Lucky Catch – Our Verdict

We wouldn’t necessarily say that this Realtime Gaming slot is a particularly lucky catch. If we were to rate it as any other newish slot, we’d say that it is dated and scarcely brings anything new to the table.
