The first thing I noticed whilst playing Cobra Queen was the extremely high number of dead spins, which isn’t the greatest first impression! This is a result of the low number of pay lines – there are just ten, with a similar layout to NetEnt’s Dead or Alive. On the other hand, when you do score a win even the lowest paying combination of three symbols awards enough to cover the cost of several spins.

Cobra Queen uses a standard five-by-three layout and is advertised as being an extremely high volatility slot game. I see no reason to argue with that, but Red Tiger’s claim of a four-out-of-five hit rate feels a little disingenuous considering my earlier first impressions. Max Win Gaming advertises a maximum win of 2,000x, though I believe this is actually the maximum win from a single spin – a huge bonus round could feature several of these hits.

Symbols & Payouts

When looking at the pay table, the amounts shown must be multiplied by your bet per line. For example, if you choose the minimum bet of 0.20 units then you are betting 0.02 on each of the game’s ten pay lines. A line of three Aces shows a win of 10x, which is multiplied by your bet per line (0.02) to calculate how much you will win – in this case, 0.20 units.

That’s not very exciting – it’s the same amount you are betting! A full line of five cobra queen symbols returns 1,000x your bet on that line, which is 20.00 units – that’s much more like it, but the truth is you won’t see this combination very often. A lot of the game’s 96.02% RTP is tied up in these big five-of-a-kind wins, which are very hard to hit during the base game.

As a result, Cobra Queen ends up being all about hitting the bonus rounds, as that is where the money is! Let’s talk about those now.

Special Features

The first time you hit a winning combination on Cobra Queen you will immediately notice that a wild symbol is left on the layout for the next spin. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to recreate this setup myself despite many, many attempts. It seems particularly difficult to hit any winning lines during the free spins, which is probably because a different reel set is used during the bonus round.

It seems inevitable to me that somebody will hit an absolute monster of a win on the Cobra Queen slot game sometime in the future. The potential is definitely there, even if I wasn’t able to see any of it directly during my testing.
